El objetivo de la investigación fue determinar la preferencia de oviposición de gorgojo del maíz (Sitophilus zeamais) en granos. Para ello, realizamos un experimento con cuatro tratamientos que consistían en diferentes tipos de cereales: maíz, trigo, cebada y arroz. En cada tratamiento infestamos 50 gramos de grano con 50 insectos adultos, los cuales retiramos después de dos semanas. Luego, aplicamos el método de coloración de la fucsina y observamos al microscopio estereoscópico 50 granos al azar de cada repetición y de cada cereal para cuantificar las posturas de huevos y determinar los sitios de oviposición. Los resultados indicaron que la mayor cantidad promedio de huevos fue observada en los granos de maíz, seguidos por los granos de trigo, cebada y arroz respectivamente. En cuanto al lugar de preferencia de la postura de huevos, observamos que, en los granos de maíz y cebada era el costado o parte lateral del grano, mientras que en los granos de trigo era el frente del grano. Por otro lado, en los granos de arroz no hubo preferencia de lugar de oviposición, debido al empleo de grano pilado en el ensayo.
