RESUMO -O planejamento para a restauração de extensas áreas fragmentadas tem como ponto de partida a caracterização dos efeitos da fragmentação na paisagem. Assim, este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de caracterizar os principais aspectos da fragmentação florestal na bacia hidrográfica do rio Poxim-SE, verificando-se seus possíveis efeitos, através de análises quantitativas da estrutura da paisagem. Para isso, foram utilizados indicadores de paisagem (métricas) selecionados a partir das opções do programa Patch Analyst 5.0. Foram demarcados pontos georreferenciados na área, para relacionar os dados apontados pelas métricas com as informações em campo. Por meio da análise das métricas, observou-se que cerca de 85% dos fragmentos são pequenos. Todos os fragmentos da área apresentam formas irregulares e alto grau de isolamento, com distância média de 657,3 m. Na simulação de uma área de borda de 35 m, a área total seria reduzida em 32% com a exclusão de 28 fragmentos que estariam totalmente sob essa condição. As informações em campo estão de acordo com os indicadores de intensa ação antrópica, o que levou à fragmentação da área. Os efeitos da fragmentação são evidentes na bacia hidrográfica do rio Poxim, e o planejamento de metas para conservação da biodiversidade é necessário para reduzir a ação antrópica nessa área.Palavras-chave: Ecologia de paisagem; Métricas da paisagem; Fragmentação. RESUMO -Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a utilização da semeadura direta e a influência de um protetor físico sobre o estabelecimento de espécies florestais nativas em uma área com pastagem e outra com agricultura. O experimento foi executado no Município de São Cristóvão, SE (10º55'20"S e 37º12'00"W), em delineamento em blocos casualizados, em esquema fatorial, com três repetições. Foram utilizadas sementes de Erythrina velutina Wild., Bowdichia virgilioides Kunth., Guazuma ulmifolia Lam., Machaerium aculeatum Raddi, Lonchocarpus sericeus (Poir) DC. e Sapindus saponaria L. As avaliações feitas em campo foram: emergência, sobrevivência e desenvolvimento inicial das mudas das espécies (altura e diâmetro). Com relação à emergência e sobrevivência de plântulas, houve diferença significativa entre os dois ambientes, com melhores resultados no subsistema agricultura. Considerando o desenvolvimento das espécies, E. velutina destacou-se das demais por ter apresentado as maiores médias de altura e diâmetro nas duas áreas, em ambos os tratamentos. A semeadura direta foi viável na recuperação de áreas degradadas com espécies florestais nativas, nos ambientes estudados.Palavras-chave: Sementes de espécies florestais, Plantio direto e Protetor físico de germinação.
