Notre objectif est d'étudier les voyelles nasales (Vn) du français méridional à l'aide de méthodes aérodynamiques qui s'avèrent plus efficaces pour mesurer les mécanismes de la nasalité que l'analyse acoustique. Nous proposons notamment le calcul d'un quotient nasal qui mesure à partir du débit d'air nasal le pourcentage en durée de nasalisation d'un phonème. Notre étude porte sur un corpus de 20 locuteurs. Adoptant l'approche de la phonologie expérimentale, nous montrons que les Vn méridionales sont nettement moins nasalisées que celles des non méridionaux, confirmant, sur un corpus conséquent, le résultat d'études antérieures. Or, sur tous les phonèmes confondus, les méridionaux ne nasalisent pas moins que les non méridionaux. L'oralité des voyelles nasales ne relèverait donc pas d'un comportement strictement physiologique, mais bien linguistique, ce qui nous permet d'alimenter le débat sur leur nature phonologique.
