Social economy has assumed a role of growing importance in these last decades, being seen by several entities and political agents as one of the pillars in a new sustainable economic model. Volunteer programs are multiplying, and greater coordination between the various involved actors is essential to guarantee that society's help reaches the people who need them. In this sense, a digital donation platform based exclusively on open source technologies has been proposed and developed, which simplifies the process of donation of goods to a set of causes created by social solidarity institutions. The application permits anonymous donations and allows the monitoring of the status of each donation by the donors. Additionally, usability was considered as a key element in the design of the application
, conducted evaluations with the highest and lowest rates of positive reimbursement decisions: 100% (n = 29) and 57% (n = 30), respectively. No significant association was found between ERG group and reimbursement decision (p = 0.0930). Review year, oncology status, and review type were all tested as possible confounders. Of the models tested, the only significant relationship found was between review type and reimbursement decision, with indications reviewed through the MTA process being 60% less likely to receive reimbursement than those reviewed through the STA process (HSTs omitted from the model because of over-fitting). While reviews evaluated by different ERG groups had different rates of reimbursement, the difference was not statistically significant. The relationship between review type and reimbursement decision should be explored in future research.
Nonprofit organizations are constantly challenged to find new ways of finding new donors and sources of funding for their solidarity actions. The traumatic events that occurred in the summer of 2017 in Portugal that caused more than 100 deaths consumed by the fires caused these organizations to have difficulties in coordinating the whole wave of solidarity generated in the community. In this sense, this study has developed a technological platform based exclusively on free technologies that allowed these entities to receive donations and manage this whole process. The application developed enables the reception of anonymous donations and monitoring the status of each donation. Furthermore, several requirements in terms of compatibility with mobile devices, usability, security, and privacy were implemented in the platform.
