Introducción. El cáncer animal y su evolución en el tiempo marca una gran diferencia entre el ayer el hoy y el mañana cuyo eje transversal busca prologar y mejorar la calidad de vida de las mascotas. Objetivo. Es por ello que la presente investigación tiene como finalidad realizar una revisión retrospectiva bibliográfica de autores reconocidos, sobre el cáncer animal y sus diferentes acepciones; a fin de contribuir con una fundamentación teórica como línea de base para construir nuevos conocimientos, motivar e inducir el descubrimiento de nuevos parámetros que diagnostiquen la situación actual del paciente oncológico para proponer nuevas opciones terapéuticas; pues, se sabe que en la actualidad existen tratamientos o protocolos orientados a recuperar, mantener o prolongar el bienestar de la mascota o por el contrario tomar decisiones finales como la eutanasia en participación conjunta entre el médico veterinario y el propietario. Metodología. Es de carácter inductivo pues se parte de hechos generales para llegar a conclusiones particulares con un enfoque cualitativo de tipo documental y de revisión bibliográfica. Resultados: Al final del análisis bibliográfico, se determina que existen varios autores de renombre nacional e internacional dedicados al fascinante estudio del cáncer animal y cuyos pensamientos, criterios, análisis, propuestas se consolidan en este documento denominado “Visión retrospectiva del cáncer animal”; cuyo fin se sintetiza en mejorar la calidad de vida de los pacientes oncológicos, disminuir su convalecencia y sufrimiento al momento de optar por tratamientos tradicionales, coadyuvantes o la eutanasia Conclusiones: Finalmente se concluye que no hay muchos estudios de cáncer animal en comparación del cáncer humano y que, por el contrario, en la antigüedad se adaptaban estos tratamientos a las necesidades de las mascotas, hay que considerar los avances de la ciencia y la tecnología propone la práctica de varios tipos de tratamientos tradicionales todos orientados a mejorar y precautelar la vida de las mascotas, consideradas como un miembro más de la familia con sus propios derechos y no como un simple animal; es así con esta compilación bibliográfica se pretende contribuir al desarrollo de nuevas investigaciones en busca de mejorar la calidad de vida del paciente oncológico y sus familias.
