Intravascular ultrasound (IVUS) is a medical imaging methodology that uses sound waves to produce a cross-sectional view of the inside of the blood vessels. IVUS utilizes a specially designed catheter with a scaled-down transducer attached to the distal end of the catheter. The picture produced can provide a better understanding of vessel biology, assist in the sizing of stents, as well as yield confirmation that the stent has been placed correctly. The information provided by IVUS can reduce complications and the incidence of stent thrombosis in aortic procedures (GarciaGarcia et al. 2010).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
