In its original form (1) the Kurt Meyer titration consisted of titrating the enol content of a ketone directly with a standard bromine solution according to Equation I:The Kurt Meyer titration has been improved by the use of the most polar halogen available (iodine monochloride) instead of Kurt Meyer's bromine (to speed up the reaction), and by neutralizing the acid formed in the addition, to eliminate a catalyst which would regenerate enol. The results thus obtained it may be hoped are more representative of the true equilibrium mixture.Philadelphia 2, Penn a.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
