Aproximadamente el 1% del agua dulce del planeta se encuentra disponible para los seres humanos y los ecosistemas. Debido al creciente aumento demográfico y las actividades antrópicas, su calidad está amenazada, no sólo por agentes químicos, sino también, por contaminantes biológicos. Con la finalidad de describir los impactos ambientales y sociales que ocasionan los coliformes fecales presentes en fuentes de agua en los cantones del centro-sur de la provincia de Manabí, Ecuador, se procedió a realizar un levantamiento de información bajo parámetros descriptivos y analíticos, considerando las investigaciones comprendidas durante el período 2015-2021. Se realizó una exploración sistematizada de literatura en combinación con estrategias de búsqueda para facilitar la extracción de la información. Se encontraron varios estudios sobre la contaminación del agua sustentados por diversos resultados. Esta revisión de literatura demuestra que los coliformes fecales han sido reportados como responsables de afectar la calidad del agua, ocasionando importantes enfermedades a las personas y afectando el equilibrio en la naturaleza. Este problema es agravado por la presencia de metales pesados que atentan contra la sostenibilidad del ambiente, la seguridad alimentaria y el buen vivir. En el Ecuador existen normativas sobre la calidad del agua, las cuales no son cumplidas, ni monitoreadas constantemente por las autoridades competentes, por tal razón la presente revisión aborda este tópico con la intención de actualizar la discusión alrededor del tema y contribuir a la conservación del agua para consumo humano.
La soya es una leguminosa de origen asiático, su composición es de alto contenido proteínico, consumida como fuente de nutrientes en la alimentación humana y animal. Este cultivo necesita absorber una importante cantidad de nutrientes para su crecimiento y rendimiento. La falta de una adecuada fertilización hace que los productores soyeros no obtengan la producción y calidad esperada. El objetivo de la investigación fue evaluar el comportamiento morfológico y rendimiento de la variedad de soya Panorama P29 mediante el uso de abono orgánico y mineral. Se utilizó un diseño de bloques completamente al azar con cuatro tratamientos y tres repeticiones, para la comparación de medias se empleó la prueba de Duncan al P≤ 0,05. Los tratamientos utilizados fueron: Testigo, abono orgánico, N-P-K y N-P-K-S, las variables evaluadas fueron: altura de planta y carga, días a floración, maduración y cosecha, número de vainas, semillas por plantas y rendimiento. Los resultados obtenidos demostraron que no hubo diferencia estadísticas en la morfología de la planta a excepción de la variable de altura de carga, el mayor rendimiento fue con la aplicación mineral N-P-K-S con un promedio de 2284,33 kg ha-1. Con el uso del abono orgánico se logró obtener 2 t ha-1 provocando un incremento en el rendimiento del cultivo.
El desarrollo vegetativo del plátano se expone a factores bióticos, entre ellos los fitonemátodos responsables de causar daños al sistema radical, restringiendo absorción de agua, nutrientes y afectando el crecimiento. El objetivo del presente trabajo de investigación fue simular el daño mecánico que ocasionan los nemátodos al sistema radical en plátano bajo condiciones controladas. Para el efecto, se utilizaron plantas meristemáticas de plátano Barraganete de 45 cm de altura, sembradas en fundas plásticas con 40 L de suelo pasteurizado. Los tratamientos consistieron en el lavado más eliminación del 0, 25 y 50 % de la masa radical más un testigo absoluto. Dos meses después se evaluó el peso de raíces y crecimiento, observándose diferencias significativas, donde el tratamiento con 0 % de corte de raíces presentó menor peso (73,44 g) y altura (53 cm), en relación con los demás tratamientos con 155 g (en media) y 75 cm (en media). Posiblemente la manipulación de raíces en el 0 % de corte no fueron suficientes para estimular los mecanismos de defensas y crecimiento de la planta.
