En México, principalmente en Jalisco, la migración indígena ha sido uno de los factores encargados de acelerar el crecimiento de la urbe. Entre las múltiples causas de migración se encuentra el acceso a servicios socio-sanitarios, los procesos de salud-enfermedad-atención, mejores oportunidades laborales así como mejorar su calidad de vida. Se realizó un estudio de diseño cualitativo, con aproximación fenomenológica en una muestra de ocho personas pertenecientes a las etnias Nahuas y Wixárika, residentes de la zona metropolitana de Guadalajara. El objetivo fue analizar el uso y la percepción que la población indígena migrante tiene respecto a la medicina tradicional, la alternativa y el curanderismo. Se encontró que se accede a la medicina alternativa y a la occidental cuando los síntomas que se padecen no forman parte del esquema de filiación cultural; se considera también la gravedad, la atención y la economía para elegir el uso de algún tipo de medicina.
El trabajo, además de ser una actividad remunerada que ofrece la posibilidad de cubrir necesidades, tiene una representación más compleja en la vida de las personas. El objetivo del presente artículo analiza y describe el significado del trabajo para los adultos mayores de un entorno urbano en Jalisco, México, desde una perspectiva fenomenológica permitiendo comprender los beneficios e implicaciones negativas que la realización de la actividad laboral aporta a la vida del adulto mayor de nuestro contexto.
