La esquistosomiasis vesical es una enfermedad tropical poco frecuente en nuestro país, pero de gran importancia clínica, ya que puede evolucionar hacia procesos graves como la insuficiencia renal o el carcinoma de células escasmosas de vejiga. Aunque la incidencia de casos en España no es muy alta, en zonas como África subsahariana, Oriente Medio, sur de Asia y América, su morbilidad es alta. Por tanto, es importante realizar un adecuado screening citológico en pacientes con síntomas sospechosos, especialmente si proceden de zonas endémicas.Se presentan dos casos de esquistosomiasis urinaria en varones de 11 y 21 años, ambos con hematuria terminal crónica, persistente y recidivante, a los que se realizó citología de orina, en la que se evidenció la presencia de huevos de Schistosoma haematobium.
La Patología Digital (PD), ha dejado de ser el futuro para pasar a ser una realidad en los servicios de Anatomía Patológica, ya que en la actualidad es una de las apuestas más importantes para la modernización y mejora en la calidad del diagnóstico [1]. Su incorporación en un servicio de Anatomía Patológica aporta múltiples beneficios, como la obtención de imágenes de excelente calidad, la posibilidad de compartir casos, hacer consultas incluso a distancia mediante telepatología [2], realizar sesiones clínicas o cursos “online”, mejorar la formación y emplear algoritmos diagnósticos, entre otras. Además, en un futuro inmediato gracias a este procedimiento, se incorporarán a nuestros servicios métodos automatizados de lectura y diagnóstico, ya muy avanzados como ocurre con la lectura automatizada de la citología cérvico-vaginal [3,4]. Por ello, la patología digital se ha convertido en una herramienta fundamental tanto para el diagnóstico, como para la docencia. Estas técnicas nos permiten obtener imágenes de una calidad similar o superior a la que nos proporciona la óptica convencional, pero la buena calidad de la imagen y el éxito de los resultados que se obtienen en la PD, pasan por un cuidadoso manejo preanalítico de las muestras por parte de los Técnicos Especialistas en Anatomía Patológica (TEAP). Exponemos nuestra experiencia en el uso de la PD y compartimos el manejo técnico de las muestras para sacar el máximo rendimiento.
