Aunque desde antaño la maternidad ha sido considerada una labor compleja, ya que en la mayoría de los casos la responsabilidad la asume la mujer, por la concepción que se tiene de que ella es la que otorga cuidados y el hombre provee recursos, en pleno siglo XXI el apoyo social y familiar que ella tenga será clave para la trasformación personal que se necesita para asumir su papel de madre. Se presenta el caso de una paciente de 35 años de edad en el servicio de puerperio, con antecedentes ginecobstétricos de 11 gestaciones y 11 nacidos vivos, quien, por conocimientos insuficientes sobre las prácticas básicas en salud, durante el gozo de su vida sexual y reproductiva ha asumido conductas de riesgo que pueden conllevar el detrimento de su salud. Por tanto, en el proceso de atención de enfermería, por medio de la valoración de patrones funcionales alterados, se identificó el problema potencial a través del diagnóstico NANDA. Posteriormente, se eligieron los resultados esperados y, para el cumplimiento de los objetivos, se pusieron en marcha intervenciones y actividades de enfermería con la finalidad de proporcionar las instrucciones para que se adapten hábitos o comportamientos que le permitan a la paciente la búsqueda de la salud.
