RESUMEN: El presente artículo analiza una serie de retablos populares o exvotos religiosos procedentes de dos de los santuarios más importantes de la república mexicana: la Basílica de Guadalupe en la ciudad de México, y San Juan de los Lagos en la zona centro occidental del país. Estos retablos contienen distintas representaciones de la niñez y cubren el período que va de 1880 a 1940. En este importante lapso de tiempo se registran las continuidades de un universo tradicional campesino y las rupturas modernas vinculadas a una sociedad urbana. Los dos ejes temáticos del texto tienen que ver con los accidentes y las enfermedades. En todo momento se considera al exvoto como un producto de un catolicismo popular que manifiesta distintas formas de resistencia frente al dicurso oficial de la doctrina cristiana. This article analyzes the photojournalistic re presentations of the 1968 student movement in Mexico City, published in El Hera/do de Mexi co. This analysis constitutes the first contribu tion to the historiography of '68, carried out on the basis of a graphic history that enables one to study the photographers' images as part of a visual strategy in which the political and ideol ogical orientation of the newspaper in question and its link with power should be considered.Palabras clave: Fotoperiodismo, movimiento estudiantil, histo ria grafica, pliego petitorio, estrategia visual. En este artículo se analiza una parte importante de la investigación de Cora Gamarnik, autora de diversos artículos emblemáticos sobre el tema. Se destacan las premisas conceptuales y la crítica de fuentes que subyace en sus aportaciones, y se discuten las bases de la lectura de imagen en torno a uno de los episodios más relevantes de la historia reciente latinoamericana.Palabras clave: dictadura; fotografía; represión; resistencia; violencia. AbstractPhotojournalism is a fundamental space for the study of the relationship between the image and the construction in public spaces of a collective memory in the years of the last Argentinian dictatorship. In this article, a significant portion of the research of Cora Gamarnik, the author of several articles on the issue, is analyzed. This article highlights the conceptual propositions and criticism of the sources underlying her contributions, and discusses the foundations for the interpretation of images concerning one of the most relevant episodes in recent Latin American history.
