La proliferación de actividades vinculadas al turismo cultural ha sido una constante en las últimas décadas. Una de estas nuevas formas de turismo es aquel basado en recorrer itinerarios culturales y rutas turístico-culturales, como es el caso español del Camino del Cid, desarrollado a nivel institucional a iniciativa de varias diputaciones provinciales. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es presentar la evolución y situación actual del Camino del Cid, así como determinar su implantación en el territorio e impactos positivos que está generando en el mismo, desde la perspectiva del turismo sostenible.
Venimos asistiendo en las últimas décadas a un incremento continuado de la importancia del turismo cultural tanto en nuestro país como en el resto de Europa, planteándose como un modelo alternativo al tradicional “turismo de sol y playa”. Este turismo “de interior” toma distintas posiciones dependiendo del destino a visitar, motivación del turista o tipo de oferta turística seleccionada, surgiendo así diferentes posibilidades de oferta turística, proporcionada a través de destinos de turismo cultural urbano, turismo de naturaleza o de turismo rural, a grandes rasgos. Estas formas de turismo no resultan independientes entre sí, y pueden mostrarse en combinación formando amplios espacios territoriales turísticos, pudiendo contener productos y elementos más innovadores como son el caso de las acciones de desarrollo del turismo cultural relacionado con la industria y la minería. En estos territorios se ha conseguido recuperar el patrimonio industrial y minero, acompañado de la implantación de oferta turística como elemento capaz de contribuir a desarrollar la zona. El caso de Almadén es paradigmático en España, debido a su reciente declaración como Patrimonio de la Humanidad, de ahí que sea necesario evaluar cuál es la situación en la que se encuentra actualmente el lugar, qué es lo que se ha venido haciendo hasta ahora, y en base a esto, qué debe realizarse en adelante desde la planificación y la gestión turística para continuar en el desarrollo y consolidación del destino, sin perder de vista los elementos de autenticidad e integridad recogidos por la UNESCO
El turismo literario se ha caracterizado por ser una tipología de turismo cultural relativamente reciente en España y consolidada en distintos países europeos, que ha avanzado en importancia e independencia hasta el punto de especializarse en ello destinos enteros, en muchas ocasiones ligados al mundo rural. Las iniciativas Villa del Libro han venido a desarrollarse como una variante de este turismo literario, a partir de la proliferación de librerías en pequeñas localidades que sirven como núcleo de desarrollo de todo su entorno. El presente artículo se ha constituido a partir de una investigación cualitativa mediante la realización de entrevistas en profundidad a dos expertos en turismo cultural. De su posterior análisis se han extraído y determinado las estrategias necesarias para el éxito y consolidación de los destinos culturales de carácter rural y el de la propia Villa del Libro de Urueña (Valladolid) como destino cultural de referencia en España.
Los cambios acontecidos en las últimas décadas en el fenómeno turístico mundial han provocado la aparición de nuevas tipologías de turismo más sostenibles, diversas y no masivas. Uno de estos ejemplos es el turismo de itinerarios y rutas culturales, existiendo una modalidad específica consistente en recorrer carreteras con trazado de carácter histórico prácticamente en desuso, siendo la estadounidense Ruta 66 el caso más conocido. Tomando como base este ejemplo, así como el ya implantado itinerario de la N-2 en Portugal, el objetivo del artículo es identificar las carreteras nacionales españolas susceptibles de aprovechamiento turístico. Para ello, se proponen una serie de criterios objetivos que permiten identificar cuáles de estas vías de comunicación resultan ser más idóneas para esta finalidad. Los resultados determinan la necesidad de seleccionar las vías de mayor longitud, con suficientes atractivos turísticos, y con menor incompatibilidades con el uso turístico. Asimismo, se establecen recomendaciones a los agentes competentes para el correcto desarrollo de estos itinerarios como una experiencia de turismo cultural satisfactoria.
