Following the evolution of the documentary and the transformation of representation based on the development of image technologies, the immersive documentary endows the nonfiction audiovisual genre with new qualities. In this context, their differentiating characteristics are identified and described, adapting the study methods to the nature of such productions. Through a filmic analysis of 30 immersive documentaries and a complementary case study, we present a first proposal for the modalities of the immersive documentary. The results point to the central role of the user and the relationship between the image, the medium, and the body as key to understanding immersive nonfiction experiences.
This paper presents an exploratory study on the design and control of patriotic images in Venezuela during the government of presidents Hugo Rafael Chávez Frías (1999–2013) and Nicolás Maduro Moros (2013 to the present). The aim is to recognize, identify and classify the visual objects that make up Venezuela’s scopic regime, unravelling the iconographic plan the state developed for its implementation. Having searched for and retrieved 240 photographs from the virtual domain, the paper shows that Chavist governments have gained ground for their ideology by way of a renewed patriotic iconography within the urban visual space.
This chapter addresses the importance of the Roman Archaeological Ensemble of Merida as a tourist destination and the necessary revitalisation of the tourism sector through digital innovation. Despite the different policies to reactivate the sector implemented in the post-COVID-19 scenario, the authors consider that there is still much work. They propose how digital technologies play a crucial role in the conservation and dissemination of cultural heritage, and they are committed to mobile and augmented narratives as an ideal strategy for urban archaeological tourism. Throughout the chapter, they review key notions that articulate the essential elements of the tourist experience and comment on previous projects that could serve as a starting point.
