<p style="text-align: justify;">La ortodoncia puede definirse como una rama de la odontología, que se encarga de todos los problemas relacionados con las mal posiciones dentarias, anomalías dentofaciales y los trastornos maxilofaciales asociados. A tales efectos se realizó una revisión bibliográfica acerca de la ortodoncia interceptiva, en el cual se analizan los objetivos principales de la misma, para prevenir, diagnosticar y realizar un tratamiento adecuado, a la vez se muestran algunas investigaciones con los resultados de su aplicación.</p>
<p>Son muy diversos los factores de riesgo de los trastornos temporomandibulares, por lo que debe hacerse un análisis pormenorizado de cada caso, para evaluar la posible concomitancia de varios de ellos, para darle el mayor peso al posible factor etiológico y prestar atención a los que se hagan perdurables o agravantes. Se realizó un estudio observacional, descriptivo, de corte transversal con vista a identificar los factores de riesgo asociados a los trastornos temporomandibulares. El universo estuvo comprendido por 70 pacientes que acudieron a la consulta en el momento de la investigación. Como principales variables analizadas figuraron: edad, sexo, factores predisponentes, factores precipitantes, enfermedades sistémicas. En la serie se obtuvo que del total de pacientes, 41 pertenecían al sexo femenino, para un 58.5%. El grupo de edades de 40-49 años estuvo representado por 35 pacientes para un 50.0%. En el 92.4% se observó bruxismo, en el 91.4% masticación unilateral en tanto que el 92.8% presentó dientes ausentes no restituidos.</p>
<p><span>El tabaquismo es considerado uno de los mayores problemas de salud pública del mundo, según la Organización Mundial de la Salud. Se sabe que fumar interfiere en diferentes formas sobre la salud del tejido de la cavidad bucal, está directamente relacionado con problemas de salud bucal, el mismo tiene un efecto tóxico en el periodonto, A tal efecto se realizó una cuidadosa revisión de la literatura en los artículos científicos publicados en los últimos diez años. En el presente trabajo se ofrecen algunas consideraciones acerca de la relación existente entre el tabaquismo y la morbilidad periodontal.</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">El objetivo principal de los tratamientos pulpares en dentición temporal, es mantener la integridad y la salud de los tejidos orales. Es deseable poder mantener la vitalidad de la pulpa de los dientes afectados por caries o traumatismos. Sin embargo, un diente puede seguir siendo funcional eliminando la pulpa parcial o totalmente. Se realizó una revisión bibliográfica con el objetivo actualizar algunas técnicas alternativas al formocresol en las pulpotomías de dientes temporales. Las técnicas con glutaraldehido, sulfato férrico y MTA son, la que los estudiosos proponen como alternativas al formocresol en las pulpotomías de dientes temporales.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Se realizó un estudio observacional de tipo transversal. La población de estudio consistió en 202 historias clínicas (anamnesis y examen clínico) de niños de 5 a 6 años de edad, que acudieron a la consulta odontopediatría en la consulta privada en el periodo enero de 2016 hasta enero de 2017, con la finalidad de determinar la relación de la lactancia materna en la aparición de mal oclusiones. En la serie predominaron el sexo femenino, la lactancia materna combinada, así como la lengua protáctil y la succión digital como hábitos bucales deformantes. A manera de colofón, los resultados obtenidos indican una relación entre el tiempo de amamantamiento menor a 6 meses y el desarrollo de hábitos deformantes. Tienen mayor riesgo de padecer estos hábitos los niños que no recibieron lactancia o que la tuvieron solo durante periodos cortos.</p>
