Objective: To assess the effect of virtual reality in pain relief during chronic wound dressing change. Method: This is an experimental study carried out with 17 participants, in a stomatherapy clinic in Ceará, Brazil, from June to December 2019, using the virtual reality glasses Oculus Go®. Sociodemographic and clinical information, as well as of lifestyle, and characteristics of the lesions were collected. A faces scale and a visual analogue scale were used for pain assessment, behavioral aspects assessment, satisfaction, and discomfort with Oculus Go®. The Chi-square, McNemar, and Wilcoxon tests were used. The study was approved under opinion No. 2.649.144/2019. Results: There was a reduction in pain during dressing change with Oculus Go®. Participants with Oculus Go® manifested less pain during (p < 0.001) and after (p < 0.001) dressing change; and had lower heart rate before (p = 0.044) and after (p = 0.001) the procedure. There were significant differences between groups in systolic (p = 0.012) and diastolic (p = 0.004) blood pressure values after dressing. Virtual reality did not cause any discomfort and participants were satisfied. Conclusion: Virtual reality showed positive effects in pain relief during chronic wound dressing change.
Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of low-frequency ultrasound associated with copaiba and tea tree oil gel in healing skin lesions. Method: quasi-experimental study with pre and post-tests in a single group, carried out in a public hospital in Ceará, Brazil, from March to September 2017, with 14 participants who received 10 treatment sessions. Results: there was an average reduction of more than 20 cm² from the 1st to the 5th application. The reduction in the initial size for the 10th session was over 50%. There was statistical significance (p = 0.0043) between the initial evaluation and the 10th therapy evaluation, with an average reduction of 37 cm². There was a reduction in the intensity of pain reported by the participants and 62.5% were free of pain after applying the therapy. Conclusion: the use of the gel with copaiba and tea tree oil points to an alternative coverage associated with biostimulators such as ultrasound. The composition of the gel oil helped in the application and in the reduction of the maceration of the edge of the wounds, as well as the control of the exudate of the lesion.
Objective:The study's purpose has been to assess the effects of low-frequency ultrasound irradiation in the treatment of venous ulcer. Methods: It is a health technology application study, which was performed with individuals bearing venous lesions. The research was carried out over 2017 from April to August, using a structured form for data collection, where such data was analyzed in the Excel program and represented through tables and descriptive statistics. Results: Five patients have participated, being three women within the age group from 65 to 88 years old. The participants had five venous ulcers, predominantly located in the leg's lower portion. There was a reduction in the lesion area ranging from 2.5% (minimum) to 35.8% (maximum). One participant achieved 100% epithelization, and the others showed granulation tissue greater or equal to 70.0%. There was a maximum reduction of 10 points in the Pressure Ulcer Scale for Healing (PUSH), and a minimum reduction of 2 points. Conclusion: The low-frequency ultrasound therapy produces positive aspects to the tissue healing process.
