A doença de Chagas consiste em uma infecção sistêmica de evolução essencialmente crônica causada pelo protozoário flagelado Trypanosoma cruzi, o qual tem como seu vetor o besouro do gênero triatoma conhecido como barbeiro. No Brasil, dados epidemiológicos demonstram elevados casos de transmissão oral, principalmente na região Norte. No estado do Pará os casos diagnosticados de infecção por via oral são em sua maioria relacionados ao consumo do açaí (Euterpe oleracea), e estão em crescimento, o que reforça a necessidade de estratégias de vigilância e controle contra o agravo da doença. Esta pesquisa objetivou organizar dados através de uma revisão bibliográfica referentes à infecção da Doença de Chagas transmitida pelo consumo de açaí no município de Belém, Pará, nos últimos 10 anos. Os artigos pesquisados foram categóricos ao relacionar o consumo do açaí à transmissão da doença de chagas na região amazônica, em especial na cidade de Belém/PA, seja pela confirmação de casos através de surtos ou experimentos diagnósticos de T. cruzi em amostras de açaí. Os casos se apresentam a través de surtos esporádicos, no entanto há suspeita de ampla subnotificação. Diferentes autores convergiram no fato de que é necessário qualificar os agentes envolvidos na cadeia de produção do açaí, a fim de reduzir o contágio através deste alimento. Há principal solução parece estar na educação tanto dos consumidores quanto dos produtores.
