RESUMOA maioria dos pomares de cajueiro no Brasil está localizada no trópico semiárido, onde a água é escassa e apresenta problemas de salinidade. Desta forma, este trabalho objetivou avaliar o efeito da salinidade na germinação e no desenvolvimento inicial de mudas de cajueiro BRS 274 e BRS 275. Os tratamentos foram dispostos em esquema fatorial 5 x 2 com quatro repetições, referentes a soluções salinas ajustadas para as condutividades elétricas (CEa) (0, 3,0, 6,0, 9,0 e 12 dS m -1), e dois clones de cajueiro (BRS 274 e BRS 275). As variáveis avaliadas foram: porcentagem de emergência (PE), índice de velocidade de emergência (IVE), tempo médio de emergência (TME), altura da plântula (AP), diâmetro da plântula (DP), número de folhas (NF), área foliar (AF), massa seca das folhas (MSF), massa seca do caule (MSC) e massa seca da raiz (MSR) obtidos 30 dias após a emergência. Houve efeito de interação entre os clones e a salinidade da água de irrigação para as variáveis PE e IVE. Por sua vez, todas as variáveis estudadas foram influenciadas pela salinidade da água de irrigação e o clone BRS 275 apresentou resultados superiores para as variáveis PE, IVE, TME, AF e MSF em comparação com o clone BRS 274. Based on this fact, this study aimed to evaluate the effect of water salinity on initial development of clones of cashew. Treatments were arranged in a 5 x 2 factorial design with four replications, relative to electrical conductivity of water for irrigation (ECw) (0, 3.0, 6.0, 9.0 and 12.0 dS m -1 ), and two clones of cashew (BRS 274 and BRS 275). The variables evaluated were: percentage of emergence (PE), rate of emergence (IVE), mean emergence time (TME), seedling height (AP), diameter of the seedling (DP), leaf area (AF), leaf dry matter (MSF), stem dry matter (MSC) and root dry matter (MSR) obtained 30 days after emergence. There was an interaction between clones and salinity of irrigation water for the variables PE and IVE. All parameters studied were affected by salinity of irrigation water and the clone BRS 275 presented superior results for PE, IVE, TME, AF and MSF variables compared to clone BRS 274.

A B S T R A C TThe purpose of this study was to evaluate the salt tolerance of mini watermelon (cv. Smile). ). Aos 85 dias após o início do experimento avaliaram-se as plantas e as variáveis físico-químicas dos frutos. A salinidade afetou negativamente as variáveis comprimento do ramo principal, diâmetro do caule, número de folhas, número de ramos secundários, área foliar, massa fresca e massa seca. Para as variáveis físico-químicas dos frutos a salinidade reduziu a massa fresca, o diâmetro e o pH do fruto e elevou o teor de vitamina C. Com os resultados obtidos infere-se que a minimelancia cv. Smile é moderadamente sensível à salinidade.

The cis-[Ru(bpy) 2 (4-bzpy)(NO)](PF 6 ) 3 complex was prepared (4-bzpy = 4-benzoylpyridine), and characterized by UV-visible, infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopies and electrochemical techniques. The reaction with cysteine was preliminarily investigated, aiming to shed light on the potential biological mechanism for NO or HNO release mediated by thiols. Furthermore, photochemical behavior of cis-[Ru(bpy) 2 (4-bzpy)(NO)](PF 6 ) 3 was studied, where it was observed NO release upon ultraviolet, blue and green light irradiations. This latter long wavelength showed still good efficiency, which has not been reported for this type of complex. This feature is very important for a potential application in phototherapy. Additionally, vasorelaxant activity was investigated in rat-isolated aorta. This compound exhibited a greater maximum efficacy than sodium nitroprusside (SNP) as a blood vessel relaxant. Nevertheless, the EC 50 for SNP (13.3 nmol L ). Altogether, these results suggest this complex is a promising NO donor agent deserving further biological studies.

The ruthenium(II) compounds cis-[Ru(bpy)(4-bzpy)(CO)](PF) (I) and cis-[Ru(bpy)(4-bzpy)(Cl)](PF) (II) (4-bzpy=4-benzoylpyridine, bpy=2,2'-bipyridine) were synthesized and characterized by spectroscopic and electrochemical techniques. The crystal structure of II was determined by X-ray diffraction. The photochemical behavior of I in aqueous solution shows that irradiation with ultraviolet light (365nm) releases both CO and 4-bzpy leading to the formation of the cis-[Ru(bpy)(HO)] ion as identified by NMR and electronic spectroscopy. Carbon monoxide release was confirmed with the myoglobin method and by gas chromatographic analysis of the headspace. CO release was not observed when aqueous I was irradiated with blue light (453nm). Changes in the electronic and H NMR spectra indicate that I undergoes photoaquation of 4-bzpy to form cis-[Ru(bpy)(CO)(HO)]. Blue light irradiation of aqueous II released the coordinated 4-bzpy to give the cis-[Ru(bpy)(HO)(Cl)] ion. When the latter reaction was carried out in the presence of the nucleobase guanine, Ru-guanine adducts were formed, indicating that the metal containing photoproduct may also participate in biologically relevant reactions. The photochemical behavior of I indicates that it can release either CO or 4-bzpy depending on the wavelength chosen, a feature that may have therapeutic application.
