Les graines de Lophira lanceolata sont utilisées au Bénin pour la production d’huile végétale, la fabrication du savon et aussi pour l’alimentation. Cette étude vise à élucider l’influence de la provenance, du stockage et des traits morphologiques (longueur, diamètre, masse) des graines de L. lanceolata sur leur germination, afin de pouvoir mieux maîtriser la reproduction par graine de cette espèce. Les fruits matures de L. lanceolata ont été collectés dans les phytodistricts du Borgou-Nord (zone soudanienne) et du Borgou-Sud (zone soudano-guinéenne), au Bénin. Les traits morphologiques (la longueur et le diamètre) ont été mesurés sur les fruits (avant le décorticage) et aussi sur les graines (après le décorticage). Les fruits et des graines (décortiquées) ont été pesés avant d’être ensemencés. Un modèle linéaire généralisé (GLM) avec la famille quasi-poisson a été développé afin d’évaluer l’influence des traits morphologiques sur la durée de germination des graines. Ensuite, le test non paramétrique de Kruskal-Wallis a été appliqué pour estimer l’effet de la durée de conservation des graines (7, 14 et 21 jours) sur le nombre de jours nécessaire à leur germination. Enfin, l’effet de la provenance des graines sur leur temps de germination a été déterminé grâce à un GLM avec la famille négative binomiale et le test de Kruskal-Wallis. Les résultats ont montré que les graines dont la taille est la plus forte mettent plus de jours à germer. Le temps de conservation des graines influe également sur leur durée de germination, plus les graines sont conservées longtemps avant le semis, plus elles mettent de temps à germer. Cependant, aucune différence significative n’a été observée entre les taux de germination en fonction des différentes durées de conservation des graines. La durée de germination moyenne des graines n’est également pas significativement influencée par la provenance des graines, 10,8 jours pour le phytodistrict du Borgou-Nord et 10,3 jours pour le phytodistrict du Borgou-Sud. Par contre, le taux moyen de germination est significativement affecté par la provenance des graines, 70 % pour les graines du Borgou-Sud comparé à 32 % pour celles du Borgou-Nord. Les résultats issus de ce travail peuvent fournir des indications en vue d’une meilleure sélection des graines pour réaliser des pépinières dans les programmes de reboisement dans les savanes soudano-guinéenne et soudanienne du Bénin.
