Pour répondre aux enjeux du changement climatique, une réorientation massive des flux de financements privés et publics est nécessaire. Le secteur financier apparaît comme un acteur incontournable pour engager la transition énergétique. L'un de ses premiers objectifs dans le cadre de cette transition bas carbone est de disposer de méthodes et d'outils permettant d'estimer ces émissions (directes et indirectes) de gaz à effet de serre (GES). Cette estimation permet au secteur de mieux appréhender ses risques liés au changement climatique et d'identifier des opportunités financières de développement en rapport avec les émissions de GES. Pour les émissions indirectes du secteur financier, la problématique essentielle relève de la quantification des émissions financées, c'est-à-dire des émissions induites par la détention d'un actif financier. Il s'agit donc de présenter les pratiques existantes de quantification des émissions financées de GES des institutions financières à travers les deux types d'approches méthodologiques existantes, à ce jour. La « croissance verte » : un oxymore de plus ? Ce serait le cas, si elle était limitée à (ou confondue avec) la croissance du « green business », conçu comme « Le » relais de croissance suivant celui des nouvelles technologies de l’information et de la télécommunication et des énergies renouvelables. Il ne s’agirait alors que d’un nouvel avatar d’un modèle condamné, que cela nous plaise ou non. La croissance exponentielle des flux matériels, verts ou pas, bute en effet sur la finitude du monde.
