Currently, Android is the leading mobile operating system in number of users worldwide. On the security side, Android has had significant challenges despite the efforts of the Android designers to provide a secure environment for apps. In this paper, we present numerous attacks targeting the messaging framework of the Android system. Our focus is on SMS, USSD, and the evolution of their associated security in Android and accordingly the development of related attacks. Also, we shed light on the Android elements that are responsible for these attacks. Furthermore, we present the architecture of an intrusion detection system (IDS) that promises to thwart SMS messaging attacks. Our IDS shows a detection rate of 87.50% with zero false positives.
Effective leadership and creative performance are the predominant factors for the success of modern projects in the global construction industry. However, rigorous research has not explored the nexus between such factors and the leader–member exchange (LMX). To address this gap, this study explores the relationship between dimensions of paternalistic leadership and employee creativity achieved through LMX in the context of the construction industry. Based on social exchange theory (SET), six relevant hypotheses were proposed in this study. The data were collected through a structured questionnaire. An online survey form was used for data collection, through which 288 responses were collected from the construction industry employees working in Pakistan. The collected data were analyzed using Smart PLS in two stages, i.e., measurement model evaluation (reliability analysis, convergent and discriminant validity) and structural model evaluation (R2, F2, and path coefficient). The findings of the current study reveal a positive association of authoritarian, benevolent, and moral leadership with employee creativity. In addition, LMX significantly mediates the relationship between the two dimensions of paternalistic leadership (benevolent and moral leadership) and creativity, except for authoritarian leadership. Based on the results, this study contributes to the body of knowledge related to the appropriate leadership style in the local construction industry that can be extended to other developing countries with similar dynamics. It also helps the managers target and develops relevant skills to acquire positive outcomes from their team members.
Canadian municipalities have noted that 59% of their water systems and 68% of their sewer systems required repair. To rehabilitate, replace or construct a water or sewer pipeline, several methods can be used: open-cut or one of several trenchless technologies (TTs). The selection of the method positively affects the surrounding environment. Therefore, the impact on environment (IoE) becomes a vital concern in selecting the appropriate construction or rehabilitation method for water or sewer pipelines. The research presented in this paper aims at developing an IoE model that compares the open-cut and TT methods. The IoE factors and their related data are collected, analysed and categorised based on literature review and expert opinion. Two models are designed in order to assess the IoE of the open-cut and TT methods. Results of the open-cut technique show that the impact on social factor has the maximum relative weight of 0.36; however, the impact on project characteristics has 0.33 and on environment has 0.30. The impact of TTs on project characteristics has the highest weight of 0.38, in which social factor is the lowest (0.28). The IoE value, using the open-cut method, is 0.4739; however, its value using the TT method is 0.3346. The developed IoE model shows robust results in quantifying the impact on environment of underground utility work. This research is relevant to both industry practitioners and researchers. It develops models to determine the IoE for the open-cut and TT methods. They are also beneficial to the municipal experts.
Abstract:In view of the importance and demanding roles of steel rebar's in the reinforced concrete structures, accurate information on the properties of the steels is important at the design stage. In the steelmaking process, production variations in chemical composition are unavoidable. The aim of this work is to study the variability of the chemical composition of reinforcing steel produced throughout the Saudi Arabia and asses the quality of steel rebar's acoording to ASTM A615. 68 samples of ASTM A615 Grade 60 from different manufacturers were collected and tested using the Spectrometer test to obtain Chemical Compositions. EasyFit (5.6) software is utilized to conducted statistical analysis. Chemical compositions distributions and, control charts are generated for the compositions. Results showed that some compositions are above the upper line of the control chart. Finally, the analyses show that less than 3% of the steel failed to meet minimum ASTM standards for chemical composition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
