This study proposes a method for evaluating auditorium-to-stage visibility using visible area ratio. Such an evaluation will be useful in theater planning and design. The "visible area ratio" is the degree of visible area of the evaluation target. The apparent area of the target, which is required in order to calculate the visible area ratio, is estimated using a numerical analytical approach adopting the hemisphere algorithm. The proposed method is applied to a typical multipurpose theater design. The visible area ratios for all seats are calculated for two different auditorium geometries and seat arrangements.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
