The main recalcitrant compounds present in textile effluent are represented by the synthetic dyes, used during the fibber dying process. Among others, the azo dyes are considered the most harmful due to its mutagenic and carcinogenic character. In the present work we reported a revision study on the new tendencies for remediation of textile effluents, mainly to degrade the recalcitrant compounds. For this purpose, chemical, physical, photochemical, biological and combined processes were investigated.Keywords: textile effluents; treatment processes; recalcitrant compounds. INTRODUÇÃONas últimas décadas, os problemas ambientais têm se tornado cada vez mais críticos e freqüentes, principalmente devido ao desmedido crescimento populacional e ao aumento da atividade industrial. Com estes ingredientes os problemas devido a ação antrópica têm atingido dimensões catastróficas, podendo ser observadas através de alterações na qualidade do solo, ar e água.Sem dúvida, a contaminação de águas naturais tem sido um dos grandes problemas da sociedade moderna. A economia de água em processos produtivos vem ganhando especial atenção devido ao valor agregado que tem sido atribuído a este bem, através de princípios como consumidor pagador e poluidor pagador recentemente incorporados em nossa legislação. Aliado a isso, temos previsões não muito animadoras para o século que se inicia, como por exemplo a previsão feita pela Companhia de Saneamento do estado de São Paulo (SABESP), que estima que já em 2010 a demanda de água será superior a capacidade hídrica dos mananciais do estado 1 . Dentro deste contexto, o setor têxtil apresenta um especial destaque, devido a seu grande parque industrial instalado gerar grandes volumes de efluentes, os quais, quando não corretamente tratados, podem causar sérios problemas de contaminação ambiental.Os efluentes têxteis caracterizam-se por serem altamente coloridos, devido à presença de corantes que não se fixam na fibra durante o processo de tingimento 2 . A importância dos corantes para a civilização humana é evidente e bem documentada 3 . Os corantes sintéticos são extensivamente utilizados na indústria têxtil, gráfica, fotográfica e como aditivos em derivados de petróleo. Aproximadamente 10.000 diferentes corantes e pigmentos são usados industrialmente, o que representa um consumo anual de cerca de 7 x 10 5 tons no mundo 4-6 e 26.500 tons somente no Brasil 7 . A molécula do corante utilizada para tingimento da fibra têxtil pode ser dividida em duas partes principais, o grupo cromóforo e a estrutura responsável pela fixação à fibra.Existem vários grupos cromóforos utilizados atualmente na sín-tese de corantes. RESUMOA suinocultura é considerada atividade de alto poder poluidor, face ao elevado número de contaminantes nos seus efluentes, maximizado com o modelo de criação intensiva. Com o objetivo de contribuir para a reversão deste quadro, o presente trabalho teve a finalidade de avaliar o desempenho de um sistema de tratamento composto de um biodigestor e lagoas de estabilização (lagoa anaeróbia, uma facultativa e duas lagoas de maturação) ligadas em série alimentadas com lodo proveniente de uma estação de tratamento de dejetos de suínos. O sistema mostrou-se eficiente para estabilização do resíduo, principalmente da carga orgânica; no entanto, apresenta algumas limitações para redução de nutrientes, sobretudo do nitrogênio, pela contribuição de volatilização de amônia. In this study the feasibility of a combined process biodigestor and stabilization ponds (anaerobic, facultative and maturation) connected in sequence fed with sludge from a swine manure treatment unit was evaluated. The system showed itsetf as efficient in the removal of organic matter, however it presented some limitations in removing nutrients, especially nitrogen, mainly due to the contribution of volatilization of ammonia.

Swine effluents must be correctly handled to avoid negative environmental impacts. In this study, the profiles of two swine manure treatment systems were evaluated: a solid-liquid separation step, followed by an anaerobic reactor, and an aerobic step (System 1); and a biodigester followed by serial lagoons (System 2). Both systems were described by the assessment of chemical, bacterial and viral parameters. The results showed that in System 1, there was reduction of chemicals (COD, phosphorus, total Kjeldhal nitrogen - TKN - and NH(3)), total coliforms and Escherichia coli; however, the same reduction was not observed for Salmonella sp. Viral particles were significantly reduced but not totally eliminated from the effluent. In System 2, there was a reduction of chemicals, bacteria and viruses with no detection of Salmonella sp., circovirus, parvovirus, and torque teno virus in the effluent. The chemical results indicate that the treated effluent can be reused for cleaning swine facilities. However, the microbiological results show a need of additional treatment to achieve a complete inactivation for cases when direct contact with animals is required.

Textile reactive dyes are very recalcitrant to biodegradation, causing aesthetic, acute and chronic toxicity problems in receiving waters. In this study, we present the degradation of three different reactive dyes (Reactive Black 5, Reactive Blue 19 and Reactive Blue 21) by ozone, at two different pH conditions. The ozonation process achieved a very fast decoloration rate for the studied dyes. The influence of pH in the ozonation of these dyes was only significant for Reactive Black 5. The toxicity of dyes, after pre-treatment, was evaluated using Vibrio fisheri (microtox). There was little change in toxicity for Reactive Black 5, but there was a reduction for Reactive Blue 19. A significant increase in toxicity for Reactive Blue 21 was verified, caused by the increase in the bioavailability of th e cooper ion that was in the complexed form before the treatment with ozone.
