Purpose: The study was to conduct a cost-benefit analysis of the Korean Mother Safe (KMS) counseling center for preventing voluntary pregnancy terminations among women who were inadvertently exposed to potential teratogen.
Methods:We studied 24,807 pregnant women from April 2010 to December 2014. Participants received information on the safety and risk of their inadvertent exposure to therapeutic drugs. The overall cost of the intervention was estimated to be 1,226,000,000 won over the study period of 5 years.Results: Among 24,807 pregnancy exposed to drugs or substances, 20,515 births were estimated based on 82.7% birth rate. In the clinic, the prevention rate of artificial abortion was 34.5% (n= 707).
