Objectives: This study aimed to determine sleep quality, frequency and severity of dyspnoea in COPD patients and to eval- uate the relationship between dyspnoea severity and sleep quality.
Method: The sample of the study consisted of 110 patients admitted to the Chest Diseases polyclinic of a private hospital and diagnosed as COPD for at least one year. The data of the study were collected using the "Individual Information Form", "COPD and Asthma Sleep Scale (CASIS)" and "Medical Research Council (MRC) Dyspnoea Scale”.
Results: It was found that 6.4% of the patients did not experience dyspnoea, 34.5% had mild, 40.9% had moderate, and 18.2% had severe dyspnoea. The mean CASIS score of the patients without dyspnoea was 29.08±7.83, with mild dyspnoea was 40.22±9.30, with moderate dyspnoea was 50.31±8.97 and with severe dyspnoea was 56.96±13.13. There was a statisti- cally significant difference between dyspnoea severity and mean CASIS score (p=0.001). Correlation analysis between MRC dyspnoea scale and CASIS score showed a significant positive correlation (r=0.61 p=0.001).
Conclusion: It was concluded that the majority of COPD patients had moderate or poor sleep quality and dyspnoea. As dyspnoea severity increases, sleep quality decreases.

Objectives: To determine the effect of watching Turkish comedy films on postoperative pain and anxiety in oncology surgical patients. Design: This study was conducted using a pre- and post-test randomized controlled trial model. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted in a general surgery clinic of a hospital in eastern Turkey between January 2016 and January 2017. The sample of the study consisted of 88 patients (44 test, 44 control) selected by using the randomized sampling method. In the experimental group, funny videos from Turkish old comedy movies were watched for 10 min before surgery. Anxiety, measured by the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, and vital signs were measured before and after the experimental protocol. In the analysis of the data, descriptive statistics, χ2 and t test were used. Results: The state-trait anxiety pre- and post-test mean score of the experimental group was found to be 39.59 ± 3.66 and 37.54 ± 3.52 before and after watching the video, respectively, indicating a statistically significant difference between these two values (p ≤ 0.05). No statistically significant difference was found between the pre- and post-test state-trait anxiety scores of the patients in the control group. The decrease from the pre- to post-test mean pain score was determined as 0.65 ± 1.05 in the experimental group and 0.11 ± 0.96 in the control group. A statistically significant difference was found between the groups’ post-test mean pain scores (p ≤ 0.05). Conclusion: The study results suggest that watching Turkish comedy movie videos has a positive effect on postoperative pain and anxiety in surgical oncology patients.
Background and aim of the study: In vitro studies have shown a reduction in radial artery spasm with the use of calcium antagonists. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of topical treatment of the radial artery conduit using either verapamil or nicardipine before the anastomoses. Methods: This prospective randomized study included 131 patients, who underwent coronary artery bypass grafting surgery with the use of the radial artery as a conduit. In 65 patients, the harvested radial artery was topically treated with verapamil and in 66 patients with nicardipine. After harvesting the radial artery, the direct flow through the conduit was measured in vitro before 5-minute incubation in nicardipine or verapamil and measured again after incubation. The flow before and after incubation was compared. Postincubation flow was also compared in the two groups. After performing the anastomosis, the flow through the radial artery was measured in vivo.
Results:The mean flow after NaCl incubation was 19.93 ± 12.66 mL/min and after incubation in the Ca+ channel blocker 47.16 ± 14.58 mL/min (P < .001). No significant difference in postincubation free flow was found between verapamil (46.29 ± 15.43 mL/ min) and nicardipine (48.01 ± 13.77 mL/min; P = .503).Conclusion: Topical treatment with Ca+ channel blockers reduces radial artery spasm and significantly increases the free flow through the radial artery conduit. Nicardipine is a safe and effective alternative of verapamil in preventing spasm of radial artery conduit.

Purpose: This study was carried out to determine the effect of nurses' compassion on burnout. Design and Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with 177 nurses. An introductory information form, the compassion scale and the Maslach burnout inventory were used as the data collection tools. Frequency, percentage, t test, analysis of variance, Kruskal-Wallis, correlation, and regression were used in the analysis of the data. Findings: The majority of the participants were determined to be female, married and university graduates. It was determined that there was a significant negative relationship between the nurses' sense of compassion and burnout levels, and burnout decreased as compassion increased. Practical Implication: Burnout and compassion fatigue may lead to inadequate care for the patient. This situation will negatively influence nurses' care quality.
