Background: Diaphragmatic surgeries include plication, direct suture repair and mesh repair in cases of traumatic diaphragmatic rupture, eventration and hernias. The aim of the current study is to review the experience of our center in diaphragmatic surgeries over the last 10 years. Patients and methods: A retrospective study of 40 patients who had thoracotomy repair in Mansoura University over the last 10 years. Results: The included patients were 29 (72.5%) males and 11 (27.5%) females. Left sided was affected in 32 (80%) patients. The indication of surgery in this case series was traumatic rupture in 19 (47.5%) patients, hernias in 15 (37.5%) patients and eventration in 6 (15%) patients. Conclusion: Thoracic repair of the diaphragm is a safe effective procedure especially in trauma, hernias and eventrations.
