A 1-day bespoke programme in EBD increased students' confidence and knowledge in EBD skills. However, the findings further suggest that two successive half-day training sessions instead of one full-day training, tied in with coursework that requires the application of the acquired skills, may increase the learning experience further.
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a complex of neurodevelomental conditions characterised by an impairment of social communication and interaction with repetitive or restrictive patterns of behaviour. 1The average estimated prevalence within Europe is 1:89 children. 2 People with ASD experience poor systemic health, which, coupled with reduced access to healthcare, leads to poorer health outcomes throughout their life course. 3 Oral health enables general health, self-esteem, confidence, quality of life and social participation. 4 Whilst not unanimous 5 , most reviews suggest that children with ASD experience lower resting salivary pH with higher prevalence of dental decay, poor oral hygiene, periodontal disease and traumatic injury compared to the general public. 6 , 7 , 8People with ASD report several barriers in accessing general health services including a lack of understanding of ASD 9 , stigmatisation and stereotyping on the part of healthcare providers. 10 People with ASD and their families have also reported difficulties
