Kredit dipandang sebagai sumber pendapatan alternatif. Persepsi yang salah tentang pendapatan ditambah dengan akses internet yang mudah dapat mengakibatkan belanja online lebih kompulsif, sehingga berkontribusi pada kredit yang lebih tinggi. Hal ini akan mengakibatkan kesulitan keuangan yang berujung pada kredit berlebihan. Akibatnya kredit berlebihan dipandang sebagai masalah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji apakah belanja online signifikan mempengaruhi kredit berlebihan. Penelitian ini menggunakan data Survei Sosial Ekonomi Nasional (SUSENAS) tahun 2019 di Indonesia dan metode analisis regresi probit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ketika rumah tangga dengan akses internet melakukan belanja online maka peluang memiliki kredit berlebihan meningkat signifikan sebesar 3,17% dibandingkan yang tidak melakukan belanja online. Hasil ini signifikan secara statistik pada tingkat 1%. Serta karakteristik individu menunjukkan hasil bahwa dengan belanja online, rumah tangga laki-laki, rumah tangga usia produktif, rumah tangga yang kawin, dan rumah tangga yang tidak bekerja memiliki peluang signifikan memiliki kredit berlebihan.
