Adults’ Resilience in the Light of Measurement Methods The aim of the article is to present different approaches to understanding resilience as well as to point out possibilities for research in this area. A broad list of measurement tools for researching adults in terms of resilience, resilience related factors and mental health is presented. Examples of standards and criteria are presented, which can be helpful in the process of constructing further studies, with the aim of finding a common field of research and further possibility of generalizing conclusions. The article also presents examples of longitudinal research and research conducted in the experimental paradigm. It concludes with the necessity for further empirical and applied research on resilience, especially involving the three levels: cognitive, emotional and behavioural.
As the epidemiological statistics for anxiety disorders and mood disorders show, adult mental health has declined in recent decades, making the life of the average person more prone to adversity. Several worldwide sociocultural changes require people to be more flexible and adaptive to cope with modern life. An essential factor in enhancing and protecting mental health is resilience as an inner source and the capacity to face adversity. Resilience can be described as the competence to stay flexible and adapt to changing environments, even in an unfavorable habitat. As a capability, despite its importance, it is mostly described and explored in childhood populations, leaving a space for further investigations focusing on adults. The article aims to present some findings regarding resilience among young adults, as well as to emphasize the importance of resilience in adult life.

In the considerations on resilience importance, the ability of emotional disengagement, patterns of physiological reactions and the comparison of resilience to the somatic immune system were discussed. The aim of this article is also to indicate the cognitive component, namely the cognitive resilience. In this regard, the relationship between immunity and cognitive functions was discussed on the basis of experimental studies.
