Mobile phone addiction is now a common phenomenon in the 21st century, especially among teenagers due to the unusual cravings in the use of technological devices. In view of this phenomenon, the study examined the socio-psychological dimensions of mobile phone addiction and usage patterns amongst teenagers in three Higher Institutions of Learning in Kwara State, Nigeria. Descriptive and inferential statistical tools were utilized to analyze data collected on a sample size of 321 undergraduate teenage students whose selection were based on simple random sampling technique across three Higher Institutions of Learning which were the University of Ilorin, Kwara state University, and Al-Hikmah University respectively. Findings from the data analyses revealed uniformity in the usage patterns of teenagers in the use of their mobile devices. Significant positive relationships were also established between mobile addiction and socio-psychological dimensions such as loneliness, boredom, egoism, and self-independence at varying significant levels.
Unprecedented growth in the use of ICTs has contributed to digital divide in Nigeria. Despite global efforts in bridging the digital divide in developed and developing nations, digital equality is yet to be achieved in nations. Government's effort in bridging the digital divide in Nigeria has become a daunting task due to several barriers hindering the use of ICTs by the rural dwellers such as low income, low deployment of telecommunication infrastructure, lack of skills, access, language and cultural challenges among others. In view of this, the aim of this paper is to unravel the socio-psychological consequences of the digital divide on rural dwellers in Nigeria. This paper further discussed dimensions and perspectives to digital divide, causes of digital divide, global efforts in bridging the digital divide, barriers militating against digital divide, and social psychological consequences of the digital divide on rural dwellers. Policy recommendations were made towards addressing the socio-psychological implications of digital divide on rural dwellers in Nigeria.
Intellectual property right protection is of growing importance in most countries of the world due to its role in the development of any nation. However, intellectual property rights protection in Nigeria has not yielded any positive results as expected due to the problem of weak enforcement and non-implementation of protection laws. In view of this, the main purpose of this article is to unravel the challenges militating against the protection of intellectual property rights of creators and inventors in Nigeria. This article further discusses the benefits of intellectual property rights protection. Challenges contributing to weak enforcement of intellectual property rights were also identified in this article. In conclusion, intellectual property rights protection in Nigeria should be given the highest priority by government to aid national development as well as promoting creativity and innovation on the part of creators and inventors.
Employee performance plays a pivotal role in the attainment of organizational success, especially, in the Nigerian banking industry, due to its high level of dynamism and competition. However, the joint effect between knowledge sharing behavior, mentoring, and motivation on employee performance seems not to have been given attention in the literature. In view of this, this study investigated the interaction between knowledge sharing behavior, mentoring and motivation on employee performance in new generation banks in Lagos, Nigeria. The population comprised 8,334 employees from six new generation banks that are listed on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE). Stratified sampling technique was used to select 1,628 employees. Findings revealed that knowledge sharing behavior, mentoring and motivation jointly influenced employee performance in the selected new generation banks in Lagos, Nigeria. However, in terms of relative contribution to employee performance, motivation made a higher contribution than knowledge sharing behavior while mentoring made no significant contribution to employee performance.
