As a developing country, Malaysia needs to produce adequate human resource in science and technology related fields. This is important especially towards making Malaysia a developed nation by 2020. Unfortunately, there is a downward trend in the number of students pursuing the science stream at the secondary education level. Lack of motivation has been identified as one of the cause of this phenomenon. This paper introduces an enhanced science textbook using Augmented Reality (e-STAR) application that facilitates students in science learning. The e-STAR is intended to motivate the students to be more interested in science. This paper also discusses on the evaluation of the e-STAR among a sample of form two secondary school students. Quantitative data was collected using questionnaires for evaluating the following dimensions: motivation, ease of use, engaging, enjoyment and fun. The results indicate that the users agreed on all the dimensions. The findings proved that the e-STAR application can be one of the potential solutions to the above mentioned phenomenon.
Persuasion has played an important role in human life since it began. In the early 1990s a new approach called persuasive design was introduced into the HCI field. Persuasive design recognised that persuasion knowledge could be applied to the design and development of a variety interactive applications for changing people's attitudes and behaviours. However, the field remains very young, with the transfer of persuasion knowledge to interaction designers particularly limited. This paper presents work towards the design of a toolkit to make this knowledge more accessible to designers during the design lifecycle. The paper introduces our work towards a "Persuasion Knowledge Toolkit" (PToolkit). We present the key body of work undertaken so far; the generation of requirements for such a toolkit and our exploration of the challenges in making rich bodies of literature around topics such as persuasion accessible to designers.
Road safety campaigns and programs have been extensively introduced and implemented in Malaysia. However, their effectiveness is still being debated. Children especially will become the unfortunate victims of road accidents if they are unaware of the danger and precaution actions to be safe on the road. In response to that, this paper introduces an application as an alternative that inculcates road safety awareness to further support existing related programs and campaigns. Particularly, an interactive web application incorporating interactive multimedia elements has been designed and evaluated. Results on the usability test indicate a promising success and highlight aspects and issues that can be further focused for improvement and enhancement.
Q-Ibadah is a mobile application that aims to nurture KAFA students on their Islamic and religious knowledge. The lack of accessibility of digital and online KAFA subject resources have become the motivation in the development of this mobile app. Design and development of this application have followed the software development phases by iterating its design based on the results gathered during the usability pilot-testing phase. As a result, few alterations were suggested for the next development cycle. This research is aimed to provide more contemporary learning style for this important religious lesson for children in Malaysia.
Many aid organizations have historically relied on conventional methods of fundraising. The technology evaluation has enabled online funding which recently has gained popularity especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. This article's major discussion will focus on the evaluation of iDo, a mobile app for online fundraising. The evaluation processes were thoroughly covered, and the findings demonstrated that this application is usable and effective. This finding indicates that donations made via the internet are accepted, and the features used in this mobile application can serve as a model for other similar applications.
