Introdução: A esquistossomose mansoni é uma doença parasitária causada pelo Schistosoma mansoni que afeta, majoritariamente, comunidades pobres e rurais que vivem em condições de vulnerabilidade social. O baixo nível de conhecimento da população sobre a parasitose é um dos fatores que influencia sua ocorrência. Objetivo: Relatar a experiência do desenvolvimento de ações de educação em saúde com profissionais da atenção primária à saúde como estratégia de orientação e controle da esquistossomose em um município endêmico no Estado de Alagoas. Metodologia: A área de estudo foi o município de Feira Grande, onde foi realizado encontros de atualização sobre a esquistossomose, dividido em dois momentos. No primeiro fez-se uma abordagem geral da doença, enfatizando aspectos epidemiológicos e estratégias de educação em saúde. O segundo, consistiu em uma roda de conversa com relatos de experiências dos ouvintes sobre a doença. O público-alvo foram os profissionais de saúde que compõem a equipe da estratégia saúde da família de uma unidade básica de saúde do município investigado. Os recursos utilizados foram informatizados e com amostras reais de conchas do hospedeiro intermediário (caramujos Biomphalaria sp.) do parasito. Resultados: Participaram das ações educativas, enfermeiros, técnicos em enfermagem, agentes comunitários de saúde e de endemias. Os encontros foram produtivos e com rica troca de informações sobre a esquistossomose, onde os partícipes relataram suas experiências e conhecimentos, esclareceram dúvidas e interagiram entre si. A utilização do material biológico (conchas dos caramujos) proporcionou uma aproximação real dos participantes com algumas características dos vetores do S. mansoni, promovendo a partir disso uma possível autonomia na identificação de focos de transmissão da doença em suas respectivas micro-áreas de atuação. Conclusão: O desenvolvimento de estratégias de profilaxia e ações em saúde permanente entre profissionais torna-se promissor para a implementação de novas estratégias de controle da doença e possível mudança do cenário epidemiológico de risco na região. A sensibilização para os profissionais da estratégia saúde da família através de estratégias instrutivas e didáticas pode ser mais explorada cotidianamente a fim de alcançar melhores indicadores.
