El principio de representatividad afirma que el vector de probabilidades de inclusión debe tener un comportamiento estructural similar al del vector de observacionesde la característica de interés. En encuestas complejas, en donde se utilizanprocesos de conglomeración y estratificación, generalmente no se cumple tal principio.Por lo anterior, y dado el carácter multiprop´osito de las encuestas que brindanestadísticas oficiales, se hace necesario profundizar acerca de la forma como se ponderanlas observaciones para cumplir con los requisitos de mínima variación en laestimación de totales poblaciones. En este artículo se explora una metodología quepermite modelar los factores de expansión, inducidos por el diseño de muestreo,para cumplir con el principio de representatividad y mejorar los coeficientes devariación para unos nuevos estimadores de totales de las variables que conformanuna encuesta compleja.
