Resumo − Os objetivos deste trabalho foram caracterizar agronomicamente cem clones de mandioca (Manihot esculenta Crantz) e calcular os coeficientes de trilha entre a produção de raízes tuberosas e cinco componentes da produção, de modo a auxiliar na seleção de clones superiores. O experimento foi conduzido em área experimental da Universidade Federal de Lavras, em 2005 e 2006. Cem clones de mandioca foram avaliados em delineamento látice quadrado 10x10. A unidade experimental foi constituída por quatro plantas espaçadas de 1,0x0,6 m. As análises estatísticas foram realizadas considerando-se as oito características individualmente, utilizando-se o teste de Scott-Knott para agrupamento das médias. Os clones 87 e 88 mostraram-se promissores tanto para serem utilizados em cruzamentos quanto para fixação como novas cultivares em virtude do excelente desempenho nas características comprimento, número e produção de raízes tuberosas por planta. A análise de trilha mostrou que o número de raízes por planta e o peso total da parte aérea podem ser utilizados como critérios na seleção indireta para produção de raízes tuberosas em mandioca.Termos para indexação: Manihot esculenta, análise de trilha, seleção indireta, produção de raízes tuberosas. Morphoagronomic characterization and path analysis of production components in cassava clonesAbstract − The objectives of this work were to perform the agronomic characterization of 100 cassava plants (Manihot esculenta Crantz) and to obtain path coefficients analysis between the storage root production (basic variable) and five production components (explanative variable). The experiment was conducted at a research farm of Universidade Federal de Lavras, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, in square lattice (10x10), with two replications, using 100 clones and four plants per plot. Statistical analyses were accomplished considering the eight characteristics individually. The Scott-Knott's test was used for grouping the means. Clones 87 and 88 showed to be promising both to be used in crossings and to be fixed as new cultivate, due to their excellent performance in the characteristics: length, number and storage roots production per plant. Path coefficient analysis demonstrates that root number per plant and aerial part weight can be used as criteria of indirect selection for storage roots production.

RESUMOObjetivou-se no presente estudo, estimar a diversidade genética entre 75 clones F 1 , 19 variedades locais ou "landraces" e seis cultivares comerciais, sugerir com base na dissimilaridade e no desempenho agronômico, subamostras com potencial para uso em programas de hibridação ou como cultivares e estimar a contribuição relativa de cada característica fenotípica para a diversidade. As subamostras foram avaliadas por meio de sete caracteres quantitativos relacionadas à parte aérea e à produção de raízes tuberosas em experimento realizado em Lavras, Minas Gerais. O delineamento utilizado foi um látice simples 10x10, com parcelas de 2,4 m 2 e quatro plantas úteis. A divergência genética foi expressa por meio da distância generalizada de Mahalanobis, com posterior agrupamento das subamostras pelo método de otimização de Tocher. A contribuição relativa das características para a diversidade baseou-se no método de Singh (1981). Há divergência genética entre as subamostras estudadas, sendo as subamostras 60, 61, 66 e 67 potencialmente úteis a participarem de fases seguintes em um programa de melhoramento. O rendimento de biomassa da parte aérea e o número de raízes tuberosas por planta foram mais importantes para a discriminação das subamostras.Palavras-chave: Manihot esculenta, pré-melhoramento, análises biométricas. ABSTRACT GENETIC DIVERGENCE AMONG CASSAVA ACESSIONSThe objective of the present study was to estimate the genetic diversity among 75 F 1 clones, 19 landraces and six commercial cultivars and to suggest on the basis of dissimilarity and the agronomic performance the accessions potential by use full as cultivars or for breeding programs. In addition this study aimed at to estimate the relative contribution of phenotypic traits for the diversity. The accessions were evaluated using seven quantitative traits related to shoot and roots production in experimental trial conducted in Lavras, Minas Gerais State. The design was a simple lattice 10x10, in which plots of 2.4 m 2 , and four useful plants. The genetic diversity was expressed by the generalized Mahalanobis distance, with subsequent grouping of the accessions by Tocher's optimization procedure. The relative contribution of traits to the diversity based method of Singh (1981). There are genetic differences between the accessions studied. The accessions 60, 61, 66 and 67 are potentially useful to participate in phases in a breeding program. The yield of shoots biomass and roots number per plant were more important for accession discrimination.

Evaluation of the effects of sucrose concentrations and stages of fruit development in the in vitro embryos culture of coffee fruitsIn vitro culture offers a controlled system to study the nutritional, physiologic and biochemical processes of embryos in several developmental stages. In this work, the relationship between development stage of the fruit and sucrose concentration in the culture medium for in vitro development of coffee embryos was evaluated. Embryos of Coffea arabica L. cv. Acaiá were excised and inoculated into the culture medium MS with pH adjusted to 5.8. The treatments consisted of the combination of six sucrose concentrations (0, 15, 30, 60, 90 and 120 g L -1

A não existência de uma metodologia adaptada para a multiplicação clonal de C. arabica L. em escala comercial tem sido uma grande restrição a utilização dessa técnica como estratégia para viabilizar o uso de cafeeiros híbridos obtidos pelo melhoramento genético. Com o objetivo de aprimorar as técnicas de micropropagação de brotações de cafeeiro, foram instalados dois experimentos utilizando segmentos nodais de plântulas pré-estabelecidas in vitro de C. arabica. No primeiro experimento estudou-se o efeito de concentrações de BAP (6, 9, 12 e 15 mg dm-3) e ANA (0,5 e 1 mg dm-3) sobre duas cultivares (‘Catuaí Vermelho’ e ‘Maragogipe’), no meio MS. No segundo experimento avaliou-se a influência de concentrações de BAP (0, 6, 9, 12 e 15 mg dm-3) e dois meios de cultura (MS e WPM) sobre três cultivares (‘Catuaí Vermelho’, ‘Icatu’ e ‘Rubi’). Após 90 dias, melhores resultados para as cvs. Catuaí Vermelho e Maragogipe foram obtidos com 15 mg dm-3 de BAP. A cultivar Catuaí Vermelho apresentou maior número de brotações quando comparada com a cv. Maragogipe. Na ausência de BAP, o meio WPM é mais indicado para se obter maior número de brotações da cv. Rubi. Melhores resultados para massa da matéria fresca das brotações verificaram-se em meio MS, para as cvs. Catuaí Vermelho e Icatu.

Anatomical observations in rooted cuttings of Coffea arabica L.F1 hybrid cloning using rooting of cuttings is a way to achieve less expensive and quicker Coffea arabica improvement. Cloning is still a problem in Coffea arabica improvement and has been studied by different institutions to develop an efficient methodology. This work aimed to search for the presence of anatomical barriers to rooting of coffee stem cuttings and the origin of adventitious roots, comparing them with the structure of seedling tap roots. Anatomical analyses of young coffee plants were carried out at the Biology Department of the Universidade Federal de Lavras (UFLA), Lavras, MG. Plants of the cultivars Acaiá and Ruby obtained by rooting of cuttings and seedlings were analyzed. No anatomical barriers to adventitious rooting were found in the rooted cuttings. In the cloning plants the rooting arose in close to the vascular tissues. The anatomical study of adventitious roots in the rooted cuttings and seedlings showed the same primary structures.

RESUMOObjetivou-se quantificar o crescimento inicial de variedades de mamoneiras adubadas com boro. Foram testadas as cultivares AL-Guarani, Mirante 10 e Nordestina submetidas às doses de 0; 0,25; 0,50; 0,75 e 1,0 mg kg -1 de B em ambiente controlado de casa-de-vegetação no Setor de Cafeicultura do Departamento de Agricultura da UFLA. Foram avaliadas as características de altura de plantas, comprimento de raízes, número de folhas, diâmetro de caule, massa de matéria seca (MS) das folhas (pecíolo + limbo), do caule, da raiz e total. A cultivar Mirante 10 foi a que obteve menor crescimento do sistema radicular. Para número de folhas a cultivar AL-Guarani foi superior à Mirante 10 e Nordestina. Também a cultivar AL-Guarani melhor se destacou quanto à produção de massa de MS total, enquanto a cultivar Mirante 10 produziu mais massa de MS comparada à cultivar Nordestina.Palavras-chave: Ricinus communis L.; casa de vegetação; adubação. ABSTRACTIt was objectified to quantify the initial growth of varieties of castor bean with boron fertilization. Had been tested to cultivate they AL-Guarani, Mirante 10 and Nordestina to the doses of 0; 0.25; 0.50; 0.75 and 1.0 mg kg -1 of B in controlled environment of greenhouse in the Sector of Cafeicultura of the Department of Agriculture of the UFLA. The characteristics valued were: height of plants, length of roots, leaf number, diameter of stem, mass of dry substance (MS) of leafs, of stem, the root and total. To cultivate Mirante 10 it was the one that got minor growth of the system of root. For leaf number to cultivate AL-Guarani it was superior to Mirante 10 and Nordestina. Also to cultivate better AL-Guarani if it detached how much to the production of total mass of MS, while to cultivate Mirante 10 produced more mass of MS than Nordestina.

In the last ten years cassava roots represented the fourth most produced commodity in Brazil. Given its commercial importance, higher yields are constantly sought in breeding programs. This study was aimed at conducting a biometric analysis of cassava clones based on the estimation/prediction of genetic parameters and correlated genetic gain using mixed models and path analysis, respectively. Forty-eight clones were evaluated in a randomized block design with two replicates. The experiment was carried out in northern Minas Gerais in 2010. The agronomic characteristics evaluated were plant height (PH), fresh weight of aerial parts (FWAP), fresh root weight (FRW), fresh weight of commercial roots (FWCR), root length (RL), and root diameter (RD). These traits were evaluated at six and twelve months after planting. All traits examined were significantly affected by genotype. FWAP, RL and RD changed according the time of harvesting and RL was superior at six months. Accuracy was highest for PH (0.90) and lowest for FRW and FWCR (0.64). UFLA 42 was the most commercially productive. The trait RL exhibited the highest gain via correlated response to FWCR at twelve months after planting. At six months after planting, no traits were suitable for indirect selection. The traits PH and FWAP had little relevance as secondary components in path analysis. RESUMO: Nos últimos dez anos a mandioca foi a quarta commodity mais produzida no Brasil. Dada sua importância econômica, constantemente, busca-se ganhos em produção em programas de melhoramento genético. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estimar/predizer os parâmetros genéticos e o ganho genético correlacionado usando modelos mistos e a análise de trilha, respectivamente. Quarenta e oito clones foram avaliados no delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com duas repetições. O experimento foi realizado na região norte do estado de Minas Gerais, no ano de 2010. As características agronômicas avaliadas foram altura de planta (AP), massa fresca da parte aérea (MFPA), massa fresca da raiz (MFR), massa fresca das raízes comerciais (MFRCO), comprimento de raiz (COR) e diâmetro de raiz (DIR). Os clones foram avaliados aos seis e doze meses de colheita. Todos os caracteres apresentaram significância para o efeito de genótipo. Somente MFPA, COR e DIR variaram para época de colheita, sendo que apenas COR foi superior aos seis meses. AP apresentou a maior acurácia seletiva (0,90) e MFR e MFRCO a menor (0,64). O clone UFLA 42 se destacou por ser o mais produtivo comercialmente. A característica COR mostrou-se superior para ganhos via resposta correlacionada em MFRCO aos doze meses de colheita, e aos seis nenhuma característica apresentou-se adequada para a seleção indireta. As características AP e MFPA não apresentaram relevância como componentes de produção secundários para a análise de trilha.
