There have been several decades since the creative and cultural economy (CCE) was praised for its contributions to long-term socio-economic development and also for its sustainable approach concerning the main production factors involved by the creative industries—human intellect and talent—and cultural ones, and now, more than ever, the creative sector could be perceived as vital in facing and recovering from the several crises of recent years. In order to determine the “recipe” of a flourishing local CCE, our research continues analysing seven Romanian cities, by assessing several influential factors considered as catalysts of the CCE, such as: student populations, young populations, and local public expenditure on culture during 2008–2019 for the selected creative cities. In this paper, we will determine the connection between these catalysts of the local CCEs’ development as independent variables, and two economic dimensions, the number of employees and turnover, as the dependent variables. The determination of this correlation started by using the observation method and the method of multiple regression, but further investigation was needed, so the present paper deepens the research by approaching the panel data method. Our results prove an existing correlation between the analysed variables, some of them influencing positively, and others negatively.
The Covid-19 pandemic changed the world forever and all the limits imposed against spreading the virus, determined changes in humankind’s perspective and behaviour: concerns on health increased, and so did the needs to explore and live in the moment. Definitely, the latter perspective is prone to higher consumption, and so the high demand impacts inflation levels, as well. Since the pandemic started, Romania faced increasing prices, but the last gas price is the ultimate challenge affecting even more the living standards. The need to reduce consumption and save energy is evident more then ever, and this challenge should be considered as an opportunity for highlighting the importance, and shaping sustainable consumption behaviour. Nowadays energy efficiency measures are a must in reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and also the import costs of energy, improving the security of supply, and achieving a sustainable energy supply. This paper focuses on implementing the European Green Deal’s objective in Romania, on building refurbishments. These and retrofitting are very popular practices around Europe, used in improving households’ comfort and reducing heating bills; these are the direct effects the population perceives, but there are a lot more concerning energy resources and pollution. The present paper assess them focusing on Oradea, a Western Romanian city. Our research involves direct observation of investments and heating consumption’s level, and our first findings prove a positive impact of these strategies on consumption, even if the pandemic changed the way of living and working, and so the whole consumption level was affected.
For decades, the environment is struggling with the growing pollution, resources’ scarcity, climate change and other negative impacts; as the time is ticking and there is no reasonable solution yet, the European Union takes over the leading role in elaborating and implementing the European Green Deal, a set of objectives and strategies targeting a series of environmental issues. By meeting the European Green Deal’s objective, the European citizens will benefit of higher quality air, water, soils, a richer biodiversity, energetic efficient buildings, fresher and more affordable food, developed infrastructure, green energy and technological innovation, more green jobs and more resilient and competitive economy. In order to make all these possible, the European Commission is funding the investment project in line with the European Green Deal’s objective, and considering the late crisis caused by the Covid -19 pandemic, we have the highlight that positive effects of these investments as also part of a recovery plan. Considering the young population decisive in the changing process, our research aimed to assess their values and perspective regarding the environmental issues and the approach of overcoming them. Our premise implied an optimistic view of the Romanian young generation and the environment protection, and as the survey’s results proved, our first assumption was right.
