Es wlre hierzu nur nolhig, Iirapp mit Wasser unter Zusatz von wenig Heft: anzuriihren und diese Mischung im Somnier einige Tage steheii zu lassen. Nach Beendigung der Gahrung inubte der Krapp abgewaschen und' getrocknet werden. Als Resultale der vorstehenden Untersuchung glauben wir hervorheben zu mussen : 1) der Krapp enthalt zwei rolhe Farbstoffe, Alizarin iind Purpurila ; 2) die Forinel des Alizaritrs ist : C,, H, 0, , die des Purpurins : C, H, 0 , ; 3) Alizarin geht bei der Gahrung des Iirapps in Purpurin iiber; 4) Alizarin und Purpurin liefern, durch Oxydation init Salpetersiiure , Phtalsaure; 5) Alizarin und Purpurin farben mil Thonerde gebeiztes Zeug schon rolh; das Purpurin farbt melir hoehrolh, die Alixarinfarbung besitzt einen bliiulichea Ton. 6) Die Chlornaphtalinnsaure ist gechlortes Alizarin. Schon friiher halte L i e big *) die Beobachtung gemacht , daCs die Milchsaure bei der Oxydation mit Braunstein und Schwefelsiiure, oder auch mit Bleihyperoxyd, reichliche Mengen von Aldehyd liefert , wohei gleichzeilig Kohlensaure auflrilt. Es schien hiernach nicht unwahrscheinlich, dafs die Milchsaure eine gepaarte Verbindung von Aldehyd rnit Arneisensaure sey , ahnlich wie die Mandelslure als eine gepaarle Verbindung von Ameisens u r e mit dem Aldehyd dcr Benzoesaure betrachtet werden kann :
