The purpose of this study is to analyze the lesson study process in fostering novice lecturers to improve the quality of teaching. This research is qualitative descriptive research by conducting direct observation, interviews, and documentation. The cycle in the lesson study approach consists of 3 main stages: Plan, Do and See. From the results of interviews and documentation conducted at the planning stage of the lesson study, there are several obstacles faced by novice lecturers when teaching the Writing 2 course, including lack of confidence in teaching students, lack of experience, and the use of monotonous methods, media, and poor or inappropriate assessment techniques.
This study was conducted to describe the improvement of speech skills and the activeness of learners in English language development through debate methods, the implementation of this activity through Class Action Research. The study was conducted in class VII-B SMPN 2 Gunungsitoli Idanoi, which numbered 27 people. This research was conducted in the Even Semester of the Academic Year 2020/2021. Data sources in this class of research include learners, peers, researchers, and documents. The data collection techniques used are observations, tests, and questionnaires. The data analysis carried out in this study is a descriptive analysis technique that includes quantitative data and qualitative data. Quantitative data is obtained from the results of learning learners, while qualitative data is obtained from observation results. The results showed that debate methods in English learning could improve learners' ability to speak. This is seen from the observation that student activity increased from 68.63% in cycle I to 86.75% in cycle II. The final score of learners increased from 70.37 in cycle I to 88.9 in cycle II. This means that the debate method has a positive effect on improving students' speaking skills.
This study aims to improve activities and learning outcomes of English by giving assignments to class X SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli. This type of research is Classroom Action Researcher. The strategy of this research is to carry out action planning, observation, analysis and reflection steps. Data collection techniques to obtain data in this study include tests and direct observation. The results showed that the activity and improvement of student learning outcomes obtained an average learning outcome in the first cycle of 69,54. Cycle II obtained the average value of learning outcomes that is 89,97. The results of the study concluded that learning by using the assignment method can increase students' learning outcomes in Class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Gunungsitoli by providing reinforcement, more students to participate in learning.
The purpose of this research is to describe how students achieve their reading comprehension performance when they apply the KWL (Know, Want to Know, Learned) Strategy. KWL is a strategy that can better comprehend the content of material read by the students. Using this strategy can help the students read effectively and efficiently to build their comprehension. After analyzing the data, the finding shows that the KWL Strategy positively contributes to the students’ achievement in their reading comprehension. It can be seen from the progress of scores in each cycle that the students acquired. Other aspects that the students should have in applying this strategy, such as motivation and vocabulary mastery, play a vital role in classroom activities; besides, the serious attention of the teacher to use the procedures of KWL strategy is necessary. The result of this research is KWL strategy can increase the students' reading comprehension in Second Language Acquisition (SLA) subject by applying some modifications to the procedures. Considering the result from the research, the researcher recommends that the KWL strategy be continuously implemented in activating students’ reading comprehension.ABSTRAKTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan bagaimana siswa mencapai pemahamannya ketika menerapkan Strategi KWL. KWL merupakan salah satu strategi yang dapat memberikan pemahaman yang lebih baik akan sebuah konten materi yang dibaca oleh siswa. Penggunaan strategi dapat membantu siswa membaca secara efektif dan efisien untuk membangun pemahaman. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa Strategi KWL memiliki kontribusi positif terhadap prestasi siswa dalam memahami bacaan SLA, hal ini dapat dilihat dari kemajuan akan nilai dalam pembelajaran yang diperoleh siswa. Aspek lain yang harus dimiliki siswa dalam menerapkan strategi ini, misalnya motivasi dan penguasaan kosakata memegang peranan yang sangat penting dalam kegiatan kelas, selain itu perhatian serius dari guru untuk menerapkan prosedur strategi KWL mutlak diperlukan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa strategi KWL dapat meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa pada pelajaran SLA dengan penerapan beberapa modifikasi pada prosedurnya. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian tersebut, peneliti merekomendasikan strategi KWL untuk diimplementasikan secara berkelanjutan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman membaca siswa.
The investigation of the relationship between overall self-confidence and academic success in the oral presentation course was a special focus of the study. 53 female undergraduate English majors from PGRI University of Palembang participated in the study. The General Self-Confidence Questionnaire (GSCQ) and final evaluation scores for the Oral Presentation course were used to gather data. Data analysis was done using SPSS. The findings showed a significant, positive association between general self-confidence and academic success. High GSCQ scorers also performed well on the oral achievement test. In order to improve their students' achievement in oral performance, language instructors were advised to increase the development of their students' self-confidence.
