O texto discute e aproxima os conceitos de infância, formulados por Giorgio Agamben e Walter Kohan, do conceito de natalidade, desenvolvido por Hannah Arendt. Temos o objetivo de apontar e de problematizar aspectos fundamentais da formação inicial do professor que atua com crianças pequenas em instituições de educação infantil. A polêmica entre "protecionistas" e "autonomistas", em torno da proclamação da Convenção Internacional dos Direitos da Criança, no ano de 1989, é tomada como referência para propor a natalidade como alternativa superadora das posições polarizadas. Elaborado por Hannah Arendt, no interior de sua filosofia política, este conceito pode revigorar tanto as pesquisas para com a criança e sobre a criança, além da infância e da educação infantil. Entendemos que os projetos de formação inicial, deste modo, possibilitam ao professor perceber que o seu trabalho reconhece e afirma o direito da criança à liberdade e à igualdade quando a prepara para os desafios da vida adulta. Nessa perspectiva, a natalidade, como capacidade que a criança tem de iniciar algo inteiramente novo, dialoga com as concepções de infância que sustentam a capacidade da a criança de aprender e de entrar no mundo humano da linguagem, conquistando cada vez mais autonomia e liberdade. Para isso, o texto argumenta que o poder da infância de falar e de dizer o que pensa e sente a respeito de si mesma, dos outros e do mundo precisa ser educado.
