Résumé Le chercheur en psychologie sociale peut, grâce à ses connaissances et ses procédures, modifier sciemment les attitudes et les conduites des individus et, par là, occuper la place de l’alter dans la relation ego-objet. Il s’agit de s’interroger sur la nature des objectifs qu’il poursuit et les stratégies qu’il met en place pour les atteindre. Si ses objectifs visent intentionnellement une transformation sociale, il est souhaitable d’en analyser la justification retenue, à savoir l’utilité sociale. Pour illustrer notre propos, nous présentons une étude menée sur les représentations sociales de la croissance et de la décroissance économique et dont les résultats ne vont pas dans le sens attendu.
