Egypt is characterized by moderate size seismicity where earthquakes are distributed within several active regions. In the present study, we investigated the source mechanism of earthquakes using the digital waveform data recorded by the Egyptian National Seismic Network (ENSN) during the period from 2004 to 2008. The focal mechanisms are constructed with high reliability based on the polarity of the first motion of P-wave.These solutions are used to examine the mode of tectonic deformation and the present-day stress field pattern affecting on different tectonic provinces in the northern part of Egypt. The results demonstrate mainly a normal faulting mechanism with minor strike slip component generally trending parallel to the northern Red Sea, the Suez rift, Aqaba rift with their connection with the great rift system of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez and Cairo-Alexandria trend.The inversion technique scheme is used also in the present study for determining the regional stress field parameters for earthquake focal mechanism solutions based on the grid search method of Gephart and Forsyth (1984). The Results of the stress tensor using focal mechanisms of recent earthquakes show a prevailed tension stress field in N52°E, N41°E and N52°E for the northern Red Sea, Gulf of Suez and Gulf of Aqaba zone respectively.

The Temsah field is located in eastern part of the Nile delta to seaward. The main reservoirs of the area are Middle Pliocene mainly consist from siliciclastic which associated with a close deep marine environment. The Distribution pattern of the reservoir facies is limited scale indicating fast lateral and vertical changes which are not easy to resolve by applying of conventional seismic attribute. The target of the present study is to create geophysical workflows to a better image of the channel sand distribution in the study area. We apply both Average Absolute Amplitude and Energy attribute which are indicated on the distribution of the sand bodies in the study area but filled to fully described the channel geometry. So another tool, which offers more detailed geometry description is needed. The spectral decomposition analysis method is an alternative technique focused on processing Discrete Fourier Transform which can provide better results. Spectral decomposition have been done over the upper channel shows that the frequency in the eastern part of the channel is the same frequency in places where the wells are drilled, which confirm the connection of both the eastern and western parts of the upper channel. Results suggest that application of the spectral decomposition method leads to reliable inferences. Hence, using the spectral decomposition method alone or along with other attributes has a positive impact on reserves growth and increased production where the reserve in the study area increases to 75bcf.

Gas accumulation has been proved at the Solar Channel offshore West Nile Delta, Egypt. It is produced as an important exploration target. It was important to carry out a detailed study in searching for gas play within the Solar Channel. The spectral-decomposition technique is applied to the imaging and mapping of bed thickness, geologic discontinuities, and channel delineation at Solar discovery. From the study, two distinctively different channels (the gas-bearing "Red Channel" and water-bearing "Yellow Channel") are delineated in the area, proved by the drilled well. Rock-physics analysis (P-impedance versus S-impedance crossplot) of well-log data revealed that it could separate gas-bearing sands from water-bearing sands and shale. Poststack inversion of seismic data has been carried out to invert for P-impedance volume. Therefore, a lithofacies cube has been generated after applying P-impedance cutoffs to discriminate among gasbearing sand, water-bearing sand, and shale. In the end, a gas-charged geobody is extracted at the Solar Channel.
