O artigo busca revisitar a longa controvérsia sobre a distinção micro e macro na teoria social, tomando como foco as obras de Talcott Parsons e Niklas Luhmann. A intenção é a de apresentar argumentos que questionam a interpretação destas duas propostas teóricas como sendo representantes da sociologia exclusivamente no nível macro. Num primeiro momento, apresenta-se uma problematização dos conceitos de micro e macro, entendidos como categorias que ajudam a diferenciar fenômenos segundo a amplitude temporal e espacial. Num segundo momento, expõe-se uma análise das estratégias conceituais empregadas por Parsons e Luhmann para lidar com o problema micro e macro.
