Les girafes de l’Afrique de l’ouest (Giraffa camelopardalis peralta) vivent en petites populations isolées au Sud-est du Niger et partagent leur espace de vie avec la communauté locale. La girafe fait face à de nombreuses menaces directes et indirectes dans l’ensemble de son aire de distribution. L’objectif de cette étude est d’identifier sur le plan historique les changements et les menaces de la conservation des girafes de l’Afrique de l’ouest. Ainsi, pendant la recherche, les publications de 1970 à 2019 (Mémoires, articles scientifiques, rapports techniques) ont été évaluées. Au totale 100 articles, mémoires et rapports techniques ont été téléchargés et 35 ont été évalués et inclus pour la rédaction. L’évaluation a permis de recenser les mesures de protection et de conservation qui ont été prises par des programmes et associations pour la sauvegarde des girafes du Niger. En plus, les résultats ont mis en évidence les différentes menaces pesant sur les girafes de l’Afrique de l’ouest. Les principales menaces concernent la perte d’habitat, l’expansion des activités agricoles, la croissance démographique, la sécheresse, les conflits homme/faune et le braconnage. Pour mieux comprendre la situation, il est indispensable de mener une étude approfondie sur les causes de perte d’habitat de la girafe de l’Afrique de l’ouest.
De nos jours, la faune sauvage au Niger est confrontée à plusieurs pressions dont le braconnage. Ce braconnage se fait aussi bien dans les aires protégées que dans les villages riverains. L’objectif de cette étude est d’analyser la problématique du braconnage dans l’une de six communes (Tanout) limitrophes de la Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Termit et Tin-Toumma dans le Sud-Est Niger. La méthodologie appliquée dans le cadre de cette étude est celle des enquêtes individuelles et les interviews semistructurées auprès de 256 ménages. Les résultats montrent que 12 espèces sont braconnées dont cinq (5) mammifères, quatre (4) oiseaux, deux (2) reptiles et un (1) amphibien. Aussi, la Gazelle dorcas et l’Outarde arabe sont les plus chassées à cause de leur abondance. Ainsi, la population riveraine reste à 92% le principal acteur de cette pression sur la faune. Le manque d’emploi (43,10%), la pauvreté (24,14%) et la famine (22,41%) sont les raisons qui poussent la population dans cette activité de braconnage. Au vu des impacts négatifs prévisibles suite aux pressions humaines croissantes, il est nécessaire d’instaurer une cogestion à moyen et long terme des ressources naturelles au niveau des communes riveraines de la Réserve Naturelle Nationale de Termit Tin Toumma (RNNTT) dans le but de créer un nouveau cadre d’actions concertées pour la gestion durable des ressources naturelles.
