Gracias a la recuperación de documentos olvidados, ignorados o desconocidos, la presente nota reconstruye el itinerario, el sentido y las implicaciones políticas y personales del viaje de ida y vuelta que realizó Garcilaso de la Vega como correo de máxima confianza de Pedro de Toledo en el verano-otoño de 1534, de Italia a España y de España a Italia, para informar al Emperador en persona de los desastres que había provocado la armada de Barbarroja en las costas italianas.
La presente nota ofrece varios documentos de archivo que revelan que la mayor parte del Tercio de Lope de Figueroa permaneció en las costas de Sicilia en la segunda campaña que don Juan de Austria dirigió contra los turcos en Levante. El análisis contrastivo de las relaciones que dan cuenta de las compañías de infantería española que quedaron en Sicilia y de aquellas que participaron en las expediciones de Morea desvela que Miguel de Cervantes, soldado de la compañía de Manuel Ponce de León en 1572, no pudo hallarse en las empresas de Navarino y de Modón, lo cual supone negar la propia palabra cervantina.
Resumen El presente artículo es una ampliación de la primera parte del estudio que el autor está llevando a cabo sobre la vida de Francisco de Aldana, centrada en los años italianos (2017). El hallazgo de nuevas fuentes de información en el Archivio di Stato di Firenze ha permitido precisar varios puntos de la anterior investigación y ramificar su contenido. Así, pues, a partir de la presentación y el análisis de cinco cartas de Antonio de Aldana dirigidas a Cosme I de Médici se traza un relato biográfico que funciona como epílogo del capítulo que dio comienzo a esta reconstrucción de la trayectoria vital del poeta hispanoflorentino.
El estudio presenta y da noticia del hallazgo de un manuscrito inédito y desconocido hasta la fecha, describiendo y dando cuenta detallada de sus diferentes partes. Seguidamente, se contextualiza y explica el contenido y significado de uno de los elementos que lo componen: una carta desconocida de Benito Arias Montano a Francisco de Aldana. Para ello se realiza una reconstrucción precisa de las relaciones entre dos autores tan importantes en la historia política y la cultura española del siglo xvi como el sabio frexnense y el poeta hispanoflorentino, aportando, además, una gran cantidad de materiales de archivo inéditos y desconocidos.
