ADALBERT ROTH Die Bedeutung der kurialen Registerüberlieferung für die europäische Musikgeschichte der frühen Neuzeit 1 Das Fehlen eines Verweises auf die christlichen Wurzeln Europas in der Verfassung der Europäischen Union wird in unserer geschichtslosen postmodernen Welt vielleicht viele nicht überraschen. 2 Vor allem als Musikhistoriker stehe ich einer solchen Unterlassung jedoch ratlos und verwundert gegenüber, kann doch nichts darüber hinwegtäuschen, dass in nahezu zwei Jahrtausenden europäischer Geschichte im Zeichen des Christentums alle Bereiche kreativen menschlichen Schaffens und in ganz besonderem Maße die Musik durch christliches Ideengut grundlegend geprägt wurden. So wurde die europäische Musikgeschichte bis weit in die frühe Neuzeit ganz wesentlich von dem bestimmt, was Mönche und Weltgeistliche als gesungenes Gebet und tönendes Ornament der Liturgie oder für andere Anlässe des gemeinschaftlichen religiösen Lebens erfunden und kultiviert haben.Die Kirche hat verhältnismäßig früh, nämlich im 9. A new and innovative project for the digitisation and in-depth cataloguing of the incunabula of Santa Scolastica in Subiaco is the result of a collaboration among a philanthropic organisation, the Polonsky Foundation, a research organisation specialised in the development of digital tools for the study of books produced by the hand press, that is the Consortium of European Research Libraries (CERL), and the National Central Library of Rome, a leading Italian library with extensive experience in the field, having created and still coordinating the General Index of Incunabula in Italian Libraries (IGI).
