Abstract:The objective of this research project was to find a potential replacement for the conventional pile foundation principally for peat soil. It is fundamentally meant for lightweight and impermanent agricultural farm structures. Preceding the design and development of the foundation the physical characteristics of the in-situ peat such as; peat depth, soil consolidation, soil compressibility, water table, liquid limit, soil moisture content, soil bulk density, loss on ignition, soil bearing capacity and soil shear strength were verified. Two types of foundation designs i.e. single shell and pad foundations were assessed. Both utilized Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) as the footing material. They were conceptually designed as floating foundation employing the weight compensation technique. The soil bearing capacity, soil shear strength, self-load and the lateral wind-load are factors taken into consideration in the footing design. The total design load was considered at 100 kg per foundation. The water table fluctuation, soil surface subsidence, the foundation vertical movement and its stability were constantly monitored. After a scheduled period, the foundations continue to stay intact.
Effects of social capital on household welfare (rice yield, income, health) were examined in a rice granary area of southern peninsular Malaysia. Social capital is categorized into structural and cognitive. OLS and 2SLS were used for estimation on data from 59 randomly selected households. As for productivity, structural social capital (frequency of community activity attendance) contributes to higher rice yield. To enhance economic welfare, cognitive social capital (group norm) which is expected to strengthen work ethic appears important. As for self-rated health status, those actively involved in educational organizations (PTA) feel themselves less healthy. On the other hand, those who put high value on local organizations tend to be healthy. On the whole, both structural and cognitive social capital enhancement are expected to improve Malaysian farmer welfare.
Confronted with fierce competition and the current global economic crisis, it becomes a hot topic in the Hospitality Industry on how to maintain and raise revenues. Research has confirmed that shifting focus to innovation presents a new perspective on value creation and increase performance. Thus, this research purposed to measure the innovation creation of employees in hospitality industries through the knowledge transfer process. The respondents are from Hotel Under Marriot International Inc. The data were collected using an online survey among (n = 200) top, middle, and lower managers in Malaysia. A structural equation model using SPSS-analysis of moment structures (AMOS) was developed to examine how the variables were related. Results showed that: (1) Knowledge transfer is related to innovation capability; (2) Social capital is related to innovation capability and (3) Social capital is related to knowledge transfer. The novelty of this research is the contribution of the present body of knowledge through the development of the adapted model of knowledge transfer-social capital-innovation capability concerning the hospitality industry. The findings could guide stakeholders and policymakers in formulating plans and action towards the betterment of the knowledge transfer process that can elevate the innovation capability of the organization.
Considering knowledge transfer functions as a mediating factor, this study discusses how administrative employees execute innovation in education through absorptive capacity and psychological empowerment. SPSS25 was used to analyse the data. Based on the findings, knowledge transfer mediates the links between two innovation-related concepts: (1) absorptive capacity and innovation capability; and (2) psychological empowerment and innovation capability. The creation of an adapted model of "absorptive capacity," "knowledge transfer," "psychological empowerment," and "innovation" in the field of psychology signifies the contribution of the current body of knowledge related to the education industry.
