Varios estudios muestran la relación entre las habilidades de inteligencia emocional y el manejo de conflictos. Sin embargo, hay una falta de investigación que relacione estos constructos en docentes. Para cerrar esta brecha de conocimiento, y dado que se necesita aprender mucho más sobre cómo las habilidades de inteligencia emocional de los docentes se relacionan con las relaciones interpersonales en el aula, este estudio tuvo como objetivo investigar cómo las habilidades de inteligencia emocional del docente influyen en la selección y el uso de estrategias de manejo de conflictos en el aula. La muestra del estudio fue compuesta por 848 docentes de escuelas Portuguesas. Los docentes fueron evaluados a través de cuestionarios que evaluaban la percepción de las habilidades de inteligencia emocional y de las estrategias utilizadas para manejar los conflictos. Los resultados mostraron que los docentes que tienden a tener altos niveles de habilidades de inteligencia emocional (percibir, comprender, expresar, y manejar emociones) prefieren las estrategias de integración para administrar conflictos con más frecuencia que otras estrategias. Los hallazgos sugirieron que las habilidades de inteligencia emocional de los docentes son un promotor de la elección de estrategias más adecuadas para el manejo de conflictos en la aula. En conclusión, estos resultados destacan el impacto de las habilidades de inteligencia emocional del profesor en la gestión de conflictos. Estos nuevos hallazgos sugieren la necesidad de implementar programas de intervención para promover las habilidades de inteligencia emocional de los maestros como un medio valioso para manejar los conflictos en el aula.
