The goal of this research was to look into how artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) techniques are being used in food industry and to come up with future research directions based on that. This study investigates the articles available on several scientific platforms that link both AI and supply chain from one side and ML and food industry from the other side, using a systematic literature review methodology. The findings of this research stated that although AI and machine learning technologies are yet in their beginning, the prospective for them to enhance the performance of the food industry (FI) is quite promising. Various investigators created AI and ML-related models that were verified and found to be effective in optimising FI, and so the use of AI and ML in FI networks provides competitive advantages for improvement. Other academics suggest that AI and machine learning are both now adding value, while others believe that they are still underutilised and that their tools and methodologies can harness the overall value of the food business. According to the findings, AI and machine learning have the potential to reduce economic losses, thereby supporting the food industry's efficiency and responsiveness.
The demands for renewable energy generation are progressively expanding because of environmental safety concerns. Renewable energy is power generated from sources that are constantly replenished. Solar energy is an important renewable energy source and clean energy initiative. Photovoltaic (PV) cells or modules are employed to harvest solar energy, but the accurate modeling of PV cells is confounded by nonlinearity, the presence of huge obscure model parameters, and the nonattendance of a novel strategy. The efficient modeling of PV cells and accurate parameter estimation is becoming more significant for the scientific community. Metaheuristic algorithms are successfully applied for the parameter valuation of PV systems. Particle swarm optimization (PSO) is a metaheuristic algorithm inspired by animal behavior. PSO and derivative algorithms are efficient methods to tackle different optimization issues. Hybrid PSO algorithms were developed to improve the performance of basic ones. This review presents a comprehensive investigation of hybrid PSO algorithms for the parameter assessment of PV cells. This paper presents how much work is conducted in this field, and how much work can additionally be performed to improve this strategy and create more ideal arrangements of an issue. Algorithms are compared on the basis of the used objective function, type of diode model, irradiation conditions, and types of panels. More importantly, the qualitative analysis of algorithms is performed on the basis of computational time, computational complexity, convergence rate, search technique, merits, and demerits.
Artificial ANNs (ANNs) are relatively new computational tools used in the development of intelligent systems, some of which are inspired by biological ANNs, and have found widespread application in the solving of a variety of complex real-world problems. It boasts enticing features as well as remarkable data processing capabilities. In this paper, a comprehensive overview of the backpropagation algorithm for digital image denoising was discussed. Then, we presented a probabilistic analysis of how different algorithms address this challenge, arguing that small ANNs can denoise small-scale texture patterns almost as effectively as their larger equivalents. The results also show that self-similarity and ANNs are complementary paradigms for patch denoising, as demonstrated by an algorithm that effectively complements BM3D with small ANNs, surpassing BM3D at a low cost. Here, one of the most significant advantages of this learning technique is that, once taught, digital images may be recovered without prior knowledge of the degradation model (noise/blurring) that caused the digital image to become distorted.
Agriculture is an important component of the concept of sustainable development. Given the projected population growth, sustainable agriculture must accomplish food security while also being economically viable, socially responsible, and having the least possible impact on biodiversity and natural ecosystems. Deep learning has shown to be a sophisticated approach for big data analysis, with several successful cases in image processing, object identification, and other domains. It has lately been applied in food science and engineering. Among the issues and concerns addressed by these systems were food recognition; quality detection of fruits, vegetables, meat, and aquatic items; food supply chain; and food contamination. In precision agriculture, Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a commonly used technology for estimating food quality. It is especially important when evaluating crops at different phases of harvest and postharvest. Crop disease and damage detection is a high-priority activity because some postharvest diseases or damages, such as decay, can destroy crops and produce poisons that are toxic to humans. In this paper, we use Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs)-based U-Net, DeepLab, and Mask R-CNN models to detect and predict postharvest deterioration zones in stored apple fruits. Our approach is unique in that it segmented and predicted postharvest decay and nondecay zones in fruits separately. This review will focus on postharvest physiology and management of fruits and vegetables, including harvesting, handling, packing, storage, and hygiene, to reduce postharvest loss (PHL) and improve crop quality. It will also cover postharvest handling under extreme weather conditions and potential impacts of climate change on vegetable postharvest and postharvest biotechnology on PHL.
Photovoltaic module parameter estimation is a critical step in observing, analyzing, and optimizing the efficiency of solar power systems. To find the best value for unknown parameters, an efficient optimization strategy is required. This paper presents the implementation of the sooty tern optimization (STO) algorithm for parameter assessment of a solar cell/module. The simulation findings were compared to four pre-existing optimization algorithms: sine cosine (SCA) algorithm, gravitational search algorithm (GSA), hybrid particle swarm optimization and gravitational search algorithm (PSOGSA), and whale optimization (WOA). The convergence rate and root mean square error evaluations show that the STO method surpasses the other studied optimization techniques. Additionally, the statistical results show that the STO method is superior in average resilience and accuracy. The superior performance and reliability of the STO method are further validated by the Friedman ranking test.
