The study presented valuable information about the differences between beliefs and behaviors of Saudi population. It also indicated that females in general, acted more positively toward oral health than males. Health care providers might need to focus more on the improvement of oral health behaviors and practices especially among males. The real reasons for lack of behaviors need further investigation. Furthermore, oral health campaigns should switch focus from people's education to oral health practices and actions.
This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic criteria for postbullying disorder, which enable the persons who provide therapy services for bullying victims, because until now, there are no criteria to help clinicians diagnose postbullying disorder. This study employed phenomenological research design. Purposive sampling was adopted to sample six university students who are experiencing the bullying behavior from their colleagues in the university campus. The results revealed that there are eight criteria for diagnosing postbullying disorder among victims. These are trauma exposure, symptoms of penetration, avoidance, perception and negative emotions, self‐destructive behavior, dysfunction due to symptoms, duration (1 month or more) of symptoms, and the criteria that the bullying symptoms cannot be attributed to the use of substances or drugs of another medical conditions. Results shed new light on the diagnostic criteria for postbullying disorder and proved the usefulness of these criteria in understanding the development of the postbullying symptoms among victims. These findings enable schools and universities to plan psychotherapy interventions for victims.
Objectives: To investigate the relationship of perfectionist personality traits to anxiety traits and academic procrastination. Also to examine the possibility of predicting trait anxiety and academic procrastination by measuring perfectionist personality traits. Methods/statistical analysis: the study followed the survey methodology. The sample consisted of 521 Saudi students studying in United States universities during the 2017-2018 academic year. Students participants were invited to complete an electronic survey that incorporated the: 1) Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale; 2) State-Trait Anxiety Inventory-Form Y; and 3) Tuckman Procrastination Scale. Regression analysis was utilized for study findings. Findings: the results of the study showed a significant positive linear relationship among trait anxiety with the three perfectionism dimensions: socially-prescribed perfectionism, self-oriented perfectionism, and other-oriented perfectionism. The findings also revealed a significant positive correlation between self-oriented perfectionism and academic procrastination. Novelty/applications: this study is the first of its kind to investigate the perfectionist trait and its relationship to academic procrastination and anxiety among Saudi students studying in the US.
Interacting with mobile applications can often be challenging for people with visual impairments due to the poor usability of some mobile applications. The goal of this paper is to provide an overview of the developments on usability of mobile applications for people with visual impairments based on recent advances in research and application development. This overview is important to guide decision-making for researchers and provide a synthesis of available evidence and indicate in which direction it is worthwhile to prompt further research. We performed a systematic literature review on the usability of mobile applications for people with visual impairments. A deep analysis following the Preferred Reporting Items for SLRs and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines was performed to produce a set of relevant papers in the field. We first identified 932 papers published within the last six years. After screening the papers and employing a snowballing technique, we identified 60 studies that were then classified into seven themes: accessibility, daily activities, assistive devices, navigation, screen division layout, and audio guidance. The studies were then analyzed to answer the proposed research questions in order to illustrate the different trends, themes, and evaluation results of various mobile applications developed in the last six years. Using this overview as a foundation, future directions for research in the field of usability for the visually impaired (UVI) are highlighted.
