This study aimed to find out Yemeni chemistry and biology pre-service teachers' (YCBPSTs) understanding of acid and base concepts. To this end, a cross sectional study was conducted on a sample consisted of 246 subjects that were selected from 590 of CBPSTs enrolled in the preparation program of science pre-service teachers (SPSTs) at faculty of education-Amran university in Yemen. An acid-base test, 24 multiple-choice questions, was developed as an instrument to carry out this study. Content validity as well as reliability of the instrument were calculated. Cronbach alpha coefficient of the instrument was found to be (0.72). Results of this study revealed that the overall scores of all participants were low. Hence the percentages of the average scores achieved on the overall acid-base test and its scales for all participants were respectively (38%, 40%, 36%, and 36%). In addition, it was found that no statistical significant difference in the mean of achievement scores on the test in all groups' comparisons except for the ones that dealt with the academic year. Based on results of the study, it was recommend to widen its scope by conducting different studies that explore the YCPSTs’ understanding of other chemistry concepts in different program preparation of YCPSTs.
Due to human-being's action, environment is being rapidly changing. Human being's action is greatly affecting the environment in several ways that are unsustainable, undesirable, and unpredictable. Such misuse is the main cause for environmental pollution (EP) which is a key reason that our home (i.e. earth) is dying day-by-day. Therefore, the effect of the transition from present day patterns of unsustainable development is an issue that should be argued by all individuals, parents, teachers, schools, universities, etc. Yet, it is indispensable that everyone must be aware of environment impacts, as an ultimate goal for environmental education (EE). This research aimed to develop a model for EE to use as a framework of EE in the Islamic countries, such as Yemen. To this end, the researcher analyzed the available related literature as well as the Qur'anic verses and the tradition of Mohammed peace be upon him (PBUH). An Islamic Model for EE, as a result of analyzing the related literature, Quranic verses, and the traditions of Prophet, Mohammad, PBUH, was presented in this research.
Lesson study (LS), as a model for improving teaching and learning, has tremendous merits for both teachers and students during learning-teaching procedures. Thus, this study can serve in developing an awareness of the pre-service teachers' educators (PSTEs) toward LS as a collaborative professional development model. This study, therefore, aimed to explore the perception of participants who were selected purposively (i.e. using a purposive sample) from the PSTEs at faculty of education-Amran university, Yemen, about LS and its implementation (LSIs). To this end, an open-ended interview was conducted with six interviewees, participants mentioned above, in the second semester of the academic year (2017/2018s). The most important result of this study was that all of the PSTEs participated in this study were not aware about the LS and LSIs, too. Based on the study's results, some recommendations were recommended.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
