Water for traditional irrigation on flood-plains in Bauchi State is obtained from the Jama'are, Gongola and Komadugu river systems. The plains are replenished during rainy season and farmers often drill wells to irrigate their farm lands. Wells are drilled by jetting techniques and most of the farmers' plots are less than 1 hectare. Well yield varies from 0.6 to 9.4 Ls -1 and water is drawn from a depth of 12 m. From the mean yield, the results indicate higher water abstraction from tube wells located at Jama'are flood plains. The study recommended appropriately locating wells and greater investment in extension services in order to facilitate the growth of farmer associations.
Introduction: Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide. Due to the chronic and blinding nature of the disease, patients require prolonged clinical care and follow up. Patients’ satisfaction or dissatisfaction with care could be an important determinant to compliance and adherence to treatment to preserve visual fields and improve their quality of life. Purpose: To review existing literature on the level of patients’ satisfaction with glaucoma care services. Methodology: A systematic review of literature conducted online at the three search engines: PubMed, Scopus and Web of Science using key terms: (‘predictors’ OR ‘determinants’ OR ‘factors affecting’ OR ‘measurements’ OR ‘dimensions’ OR ‘aspects’ OR ‘attributes’) AND (‘patient satisfaction’ OR ‘patient experience’ OR ‘patient priorities’ OR ‘user satisfaction’ OR ‘customer satisfaction’ OR ‘consumer satisfaction’) AND (‘glaucoma’ OR ‘open angle glaucoma’ OR ‘angle closure glaucoma’ OR ‘POAG’ OR ‘PACG’). Quality assessment were conducted for each article and bias assessment by the principal investigator and another reviewer. Results: The primary search obtained 710 articles. Following review of titles and abstracts, a total of 27 publications were included in the review based on eligibility criteria. Majority of the studies had good reporting standard and external validity while there were poor scores for internal validity. Significant factors determining satisfaction and dissatisfaction were summarized. Conclusion: The patients’ satisfaction with glaucoma care varies and can be affected by several factors. Some of the factors can be modified to improve better patients’ experience and compliance to treatment.
Flowering state is an important agronomic trait in determining the plant cropping season and best ecological examples between plant and its existing ecosystem. Rice is a model plant for molecular studies and pertinent for flowering development analysis. Rice Flowering Locus T1 (RFT1) is the second rice florigen which promotes flowering under long-day (LD) condition. This study investigates the correlation between RFT1 gene established accessions towards an expansion of rice cultivation areas in Asia using bioinformatics tools. Fourteen (14) different RFT1 accessions were collected including 9 indica and 5 japonica, and analyzed for molecular evolution. Also, the protein 3-dimensional (3D) structure were predicted and validated. The genes appeared to be highly conserved and functional across the diverse accessions. Cultivars from the two sub-species form a separate subgroup except for Koshihikari, Akamai and Nara aswari which form a major group, while Basmati370 was in the same clade with japonica cultivars. The 3D model indicated that the protein accessions has slight differences and VERIFY 3D model refinement has the best stereochemistry score at 99.38. The study clarified on the cultivars' evolutionary relationships and suggested that diverse functional RFT1 variants is crucial for expansion of rice cultivation areas.
Diabetic neuropathy [DN) is a continual complication of diabetes mellitus (DM). It has an approximate pervasiveness ranging from thirty to fifty percent in subjects suffering from this disease, depending on the technique utilized for diagnosis. Additionally, DM has remained the top causative factor of polyneuropathy in the modern world. As much as fifty percent of the polyneuropathies are related to DM. It is more common in chronic DM: it negatively impacts the quality of life (QOL) in those suffering from it. Polyneuropathies cause chronic neuropathic pain, resulting in depression, anxiety, and insomnia among sufferers. Diabetic neuropathy is a painful and disabling condition that has enormous incurring costs in terms of disrupted quality of life and financial implication while treating its complications. Various pain killers have been tried in this regard with varying results. Aim of this review was to delve into various drugs outcomes in this regard.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
